\startsetups mine

all kind of code

\stopsetups

\setups[mine]

also works ok, since in setups mode, spaces are ignores (so when needed, use
\space)

\startsetups footer
pagenumber: \pagenumber
\quad
Okay
\stopsetups

\setupfootertexts[\setups{footer}]

\doifelse {whatever} {value} {
...
} {
...
}

also works out ok in setups (no funny spaces)

Hm, to visually align the frame and the grid I'd need …

height=\the\dimexpr48\XVertikal-2pt\relax
… but in any case, it doesn't help the split footnote to get a rest on the line.

Have a test and a look at this minimal example, showing exactly the problem:

\newdimen\XVertikal \XVertikal=12pt \setupbodyfont[postscript,10pt]
\setupinterlinespace[line=\XVertikal]

\setuplayout
[width=113mm,height=48\XVertikal,
backspace=20mm,topspace=15mm,
header=\XVertikal,headerdistance=0.5\XVertikal,
footer=3.5\XVertikal,footerdistance=0pt,
location=middle,marking=on,grid=yes]

\showframe \showgrid \showgridboxes \showstruts
\starttext
\dorecurse{10}{\input ward\footnote{\input tufte \relax}}
\stoptext

Look how the bottom most line on page 2 is about 1pt lower than on the other
pages.
When using height=\the\dimexpr48\XVertikal-2pt\relax, the bottom-lines of the
red and the black frames are aligned,
but the footnote still hangs down there quite lost!

Hans, is this a bug?

[NTG-context] installationproblem with context-distribution: xetex not working

2007-02-19 Thread Henning Haeske
Hello,

I started this night the installation-instruction from:
http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Linux_User_Installation

and then i continued with: http://wiki.contextgarden.net/XeTeX

texexec --pdf first.tex is working fine, but the xetex is not working:

 )
(see the transcript file for additional information)

** WARNING ** >> Font file name "ec-lmr12" was assumed but failed to locate

Output file removed.

I also tried fixing this with this note:
http://archive.contextgarden.net/message/20070130.082837.4bc51f61.en.html

But I am still getting the same error messages

My context-directories are having following structure:

../tex/texmf/...
../tex/texmf-local/..
../tex/texmf-fonts/..
../tex/texmf-extra/..
../tex/texmf-linux/..

Is this structure ok? Looks a little bit different than it was with latex.
I would be glad for any help to finilize my first step from latex to context.

thanks in advance, H.

[NTG-context] Ugly matrix spacing

2007-02-19 Thread Vyatcheslav Yatskovsky
Hi,
I'm ConTeXting a text that follows:

%
\setupwhitespace[big]
\setupinterlinespace[line=2.5ex]
\starttext

The Leslie Matrix is a matrix $L[1:X, 1:X]$ of the form

$$\left( {\matrix{
   {a_1 } & {a_2 } & {a_3 } &  \ldots  & {a_X }  \cr
   {b_1 } & 0 & 0 & 0 & 0  \cr
   0 & {b_2 } & 0 & 0 & 0  \cr
   0 & 0 &  \ddots  & 0 & 0  \cr
   0 & 0 & 0 & {b_{X - 1} } & 0  \cr
 } } \right), $$

to build which we need to know $a_x$, {\em ability to reproduce}, an average
number of offsprings within a time step from an individual of age class $x$,
and $b_x$, {\em probability of surviving}, a fraction of individuals that
survives from age class $x$ to age class $x+1$.

 \stoptext

and a matrix has big spacing BEFORE and normal spacing AFTER.

Interesting, but without two first setup lines, matrix glues to the subsequent
text.

Best,
Vaytcheslav

It was fixed immediately. Update ConTeXt to either the latest stable
version or the latest beta version.

> I don't want to complain but in general this is really worrying, changes to

There is a ConTeXt tests projects to provide regression testing.
However, it will take some time before it can be automated. Also, if
something in the core functionality breaks down, and is reported on
the list, Hans or Taco provide the solution almost immediately (well,
at most in a day or two). So, if there is a new ConTeXt beta after you
report a bug, the beta will contain a fix.

Change $$ ... $$ to \startformula \stopformula

> Interesting, but without two first setup lines, matrix glues to the

The use of $$ ... $$ for display math will not give you correct
spacing. Always use \startformula ... \stopformula

BTW, there is also \startmathmatrix in ConTeXt which allows you to

\definemathmatrix[pmatrix]
  [left={\left(\,},
  right={\,\right)}]

\startformula \startpmatrix
   \NC {a_1 } \NC {a_2 } \NC {a_3 }  \NC  \ldots  \NC {a_X }  \NR
   \NC {b_1 } \NC 0  \NC 0   \NC 0\NC 0   \NR
   \NC 0  \NC {b_2 } \NC 0   \NC 0\NC 0   \NR
   \NC 0  \NC 0  \NC  \ddots \NC 0\NC 0   \NR
   \NC 0  \NC 0  \NC 0   \NC {b_{X - 1} } \NC 0   \NR
\stoppmatrix \stopformula

and some other fun stuff also. See My Way on math-align
