P-S for Taco: Am I right in saying that the list of additional libraries is:
   • The twelve ones documented in luatexref-t.pdf
   • lfs, luamd5, lpeg, luazip, luazlib and Selene Unicode (as seen in
 src/libs)?

Yes, that's it. Luazlib actually defines things in two separate tables,
but that is the only oddity I am aware of.

There are a few extensions to the lfs and os tables I wrote, but those
are documented in the manual already.

That could be a start to write a complete texlua manual ... (here I'm
only interested in the libraries providing new lua functions,
 obviously).

I plan to incorporate the reference for each of those additional
external libraries in the manual, but that is a somewhat timeconsuming
task and I never seem to get around to it.

Best wishes,

Ah, you're missing a big point in your discovery ;-)

As I told Andrea: For relatively simple documents (like the kind we use in
academic journals) it seems we can now

1) convert doc to odt using OOo
2) convert odt to markdown using

http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Odt2txt.py

3) use the pandoc utility to convert markdown to ConTeXt.

As for the pandoc list, we may be able to influence the final ConTeXt
output by making suggestions, reporting bugs etc.

If we can convert Odt2txt.py to lua maybe this workflow can be partly
integrated into ConTeXt itself someday.*

The pandoc developer seems interested in improving ConTeXt support (see my
forwarded mail) so this is a good opportunity for all those who need a
decent doc=context workflow.

Best wishes
Idris

*Or maybe we can just port Odt2txt.py to give direct ConTeXt output
and forget the markdown layer entirely. Any ideas on how hard that would
be?

[NTG-context] natural table splitting bug

2007-10-26 Thread Santy, Michael
In our XML-ConTeXt-PDF workflow, we've encountered a few intermittent
problems when using split natural tables. I'm not able to post the original
documents in which the problems are manifesting, but below is a document that
reproduces one of the problems. The first page of the document is full of
text, pushing a split natural table with five rows and a header to the top of
the second page. However, only the first row appears on the second page, and
the rest of the table is continued on the third page.

I'm using a stock ConTeXt 9/28 distribution, but this problem can also be
reproduced on live.contextgarden.net.

Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong or help me debug this problem?
These natural table bugs are the only thing stopping us from deploying our
ConTeXt workflow.

Cheers,
Mike Santy

Since I gave away my NeXT system, I no longer have Adobe fonts.
Linux has (some version of) the URW fonts, so that is what I use.

Most of the font support in TL is for LaTeX. ConTeXt started out using
plain tex mechanism and then took a different approach. Look for
mfont.pdf on the ConTeXt site (I don't see it in TeX Live). It explains
how to generate the missing map files as well as the typescript.

You might look into XeTeX and (eventually) luatex, which are supposed to
make it easier to use system fonts.

hmm, perhaps urw fonts are not correctly installed .
If you have pfb+afm, maybe you don't have tfm;
you can use texfont to re-install fonts .
For example, I suppose you have fonts helevetica under urw/helvetic;
to install I do the follow:
1) chose a temp dir , for example /opt/urw/helvetic
2) copy all pfb and afm of helvetica in /opt/urw/helvetic
3) cd /opt/urw
4) texfont --vendor=urw --collection=helvetic --encoding=8r
--sourcepath=helvetic
--install --makepath

I hope someone can give me the incantations again...

If I see it right, all mapping of the adobe ps fonts is bypassed to the
urw ones (see \texmf-local\map\pdftex\context\[encoding]-base.map).
If you still have the ps fonts, you just have to write and load your own
map files. If you must revive them, download an ancient acrobat reader
version at www.oldversion.com. Sigh, nothing is for free nowadays (newer
versions hide their fonts).
Maybe there is a better way, but that's just how I would try to solve this.

Best wishes, Peter
