 Unfortunately in ConTeXt the register entry is required the other way

 \startregister[index][knuthrange1]{Knuth}

 \stopregister[index][knuthrange1]

 Could it be possible also to provide something like ...

 \startregister[index][Index216]

 \stopregister[index][Index216]{Verfassungsvertrag}

 ... in mkii, please?

You could use twopassdata to save then index entry in the first run
and pass it to \startregister in the second run.

For new files in your tree call luatools --generate or context --generate

You could also change the header in your bibliography style.

[NTG-context] Finish register sorting (was LuaTeX problems)

 My document is in Finnish so that certainly explains it. As I'm not on
 a computer with ConTeXt Minimals at the moment, I must ask if this
 also means that MkIV doesn't hyphenate other languages correctly (I
 didn't inspect my result that closely and I've been busy with other

 it should work ok; patterns are loaded on demand in mkiv

 (btw index sorting, when not defined for a language, uses the english
 sort order)

 By quick Googling it seems that none of them sort in Finnish way. Is
 adding a language support big effort or more on the quick 'n' easy
 side of things? Being quite new to this I wouldn't really like to
 bother you with guiding me through any major task.

 we just need an order (see sort-lan.lua)

I wrote a sorter for finish but we should test it before it can be included.

In font-syn.lua there is
local pathlist = fonts.names.getpaths()

This used to contain some hard-coded paths for Mac users, but then
Hans switched to reading fonts.conf with

-- name is fonts.conf
local name = fonts.names.xml_configuration_file or

-- this works on Hans' computer, but not here; name becomes empty
local name = input.find_file(name,other)
-- so this loop is never entered and system fonts are never read
if name ~=  then
collect(xml.collect_texts(xml.load(name),dir,true))
end
end

I guess that Hans has a fonts.conf in his TeX tree, while Linux Mac
users don't, and luaTeX doesn't know where to look for fonts.conf.
What's worse: I suspect that OSFONTSDIR might be completely ignored.

No, don't ask me where fonts.conf should be. Mine are at
/Users/mojca/.fonts.conf
/private/etc/fonts/fonts.conf
but I have no idea what's the proper/default location if any.

The /private/etc/fonts/fonts.conf one says:

!--

 LUAINPUTS=.;$TEXMF/tex/{context,plain/base,generic}//:$TEXMF/scripts/context/lua
 TEXMFSCRIPTS=.;$TEXMF/tex/{context,plain/base,generic,}//;$TEXMF/scripts/context//

 and I strongly suspect both are needed. After adjusting the value(s),
 you will have to rerun luatools --generate.

 I modified texmf.cnf to give these variables those values, but I still
 get the same error, even after luatools --generate. Further
 suggestions?

Maybe

   $ env MPX_INPUT_TRACE=3 context ...

will give some hint about what mtxrun is doing.

 By the way, I initially modified the local texmf.cnf file

   texlive/2008/texmf.cnf

 rather than the gloal configuration file

   texlive/2008/texmf/web2c/texmf.cnf

 because the former file says that it should contain changes to the
 latter:

   ---snip---
   % If you want to configure something to a value different then the one
   % in texmf/web2c/texmf.cnf, just put the changed value here.
   ---snip---

 But I noticed that when I ran luatools --generate, it apparently ignored
 this local texmf.cnf file; it read only the global texmf.cnf file.

This seems to be a difference of opinion between luatools and kpathsea,
(luatools should probably be adjusted to behave the same as kpathsea).

 I inferred that from the output:

   LuaTools | error unable to locate texmfcnf.lua
   LuaTools | loading /usr/local/texlive/2008/texmf/web2c/texmf.cnf
   LuaTools | preparing configuration for
 /Users/alama/luatex-cache/context/79597d0cc507e8e510dd517f8850b2ca/trees/ae181585be5454a57ae25fb95c3ccbef.tma
   LuaTools | saving configuration in
 /Users/alama/luatex-cache/context/79597d0cc507e8e510dd517f8850b2ca/trees/ae181585be5454a57ae25fb95c3ccbef.tma

   ...etc.

 Thus I modified the global configuration file instead. By the way,
 the variables LUAINPUTS and TEXMFSCRIPTS already had values:

   LUAINPUTS = .;$TEXMF/scripts/{$progname,$engine,}/lua//;$TEXINPUTS
   TEXMFSCRIPTS = $TEXMF/scripts/{$engine,$progname,}//

 But I overwrote those to give them the values you recommended, to no
 avail, unfortunately.

 There is nothing wrong with your file, I just forgot to add it.

 Try the following patch, I will release a new version ASAP. Please give
 me a feedback if this did work.

 \unprotect

 \startsetups[letter:backaddress]
 \def\\{\lettervalue{\c!backaddress\c!separator}}
 \doifelselettervalue\v!backaddress
  {\lettervalue\v!backaddress}
  {\lettervalue\c!fromname
  \doiflettervalue\c!fromaddress\\
  \lettervalue\c!fromaddress}
 \stopsetups

 \protect

And add \setupletterstyle[backaddress=yes] to your file
because the backaddress is disabled by default.

Wolfgang

 Just wikified that and added a lot of links to SVG resources:
 http://wiki.contextgarden.net/SVG

 Since Adobe Reader supports SVG graphics natively - perhaps we could
 just include them in the PDF?
 Here's a sample script in Perl: http://www.kevlindev.com/utilities/index.htm
 and Python: http://jan.kollhof.net/projects/svg/svgpdf/
 I didn't look at them for I don't know the internals anyway, but I
 guess one could use this technique in Lua, too?

It's just a wrapper to include the image in a pdf file a object stream
(or whatever this is called) and creats links to the image but I was
only able to display it on windows, on Mac I saw only the text
svg into pdf.

 An other way would be Cairo graphics library (also used by Mozilla) to
 convert SVG: http://cairographics.org
 There's even a Lua binding for Cairo:
 http://www.dynaset.org/dogusanh/download.html#cairopad
 But I don't really understand if Cairo is suitable to convert SVG to
 other than pixel graphics for screen rendering.

 Apache's Batik library claims to support SVG to PDF conversion:
 http://xmlgraphics.apache.org/batik/

 So perhaps someone more qualified than me could make SVG integration
 for ConTeXt...

Thanks very much, this works!

Still a minor suggestion regarding the interface: I guess at the
moment it's slightly inconsistent because on the one hand one has

\setupletterstyle
[backaddress=yes]

and on the other hand

\setupletter
[list={name,phone,fax,date}]

Note that both commands actually implement boolean switches, namely,
whether backaddress, name etc. should be displayed or not. For
consistency reasons these switches should perhaps be interfaced in the
same way, e.g. by name=yes etc.

Another possibility would be removing the backaddress=yes switch
completely. Then if backaddress data is supplied it's printed along
with the line below and if not, well, then leave out the separator line.

What do you think?

I've just tried this quickly and this seems even better … then what
about removing the option backaddress=yes from \setupletterstyle

1. No backaddress line

[NTG-context] Couple of questions

2008-07-03 Thread abbg770
Hi,

Firstly this is my first post :) (and it's going to be long), i've been
using context for about a week or two and it's wonderful i like
particularly like the approach of having everything built into the core.
Just for reference i'm running fedora 9 64bit with texlive and i'm also new
to TeX meaning that i've never bothered to study LaTeX thoroughly (as i was
mainly concerned about just getting my content straight) and redefining
macros was highly annoying, but things have changed now.

Anyhow enough ranting i've got a few questions to ask.

1.  CONTEXT, an excursion

later this year taco and i will have a go at it; some things are simpler
nwo (esp fonts, since we have gyre and latin modern)

luatex is the follow up on pdftex and eventually permits us to go way

less important now, also because we have the tex gyre fonts (unless you
use commercial fonts in combination with pdftex)

no book (yet)

Re: [NTG-context] Paragraph on the bottom of a page

2008-07-03 Thread Horacio Suarez

hello

I was wrong, my linux context version is 2008.5.21 and ~ \vfill works but the
windows versions is the same that yours (Peter) and does not work.

I been using this since a long time ago and when it fails in windows, I simply
try in linux because sometimes linux and windows context versions doesn't
behave identically.

Sometime ago I post a question about a file that aborts in linux but compile
fine in windows, I never knew why.

But now is the context version. The question is: Should it work or it shouldn't.

May be a enconding related issue?

Saludos, Horacio

[NTG-context] modules for TeX Live 2008

2008-07-03 Thread Mojca Miklavec
Hello,

Which modules are needed for TeX Live 2008?

Here's some list (that Hans sent me some time ago):
 http://minimals.contextgarden.net/current/modules/
(t-tikz should not be included, and )

while all the modules are listed here:

I guess that at least taspresentation and t-letter should be added to
the list? Maybe rsteps as well?

[NTG-context] Generating a list of items

2008-07-03 Thread David
Hi all

I'm teaching some classes and want to make a template for lesson
planning. One of the things that I'd like to be able to include, if it
works easily, is an automatically-created list of the materials I need
to remember to bring. I expect this means I would define something like
\Materials , and then while typing the main text of my plan be able to
type \Materials{Photographs} or \Materials{Sound Recording} and then
have ConTeXt generate

Materials: 1. Photographs 2. Sound Recording

near the top of the page.

I've tried \placeregister, but it seems to insist on printing page
numbers and alphabetical headings. I just want a numbered list of
items. Can I tweak the \register commands to do this, or perhaps is
there something else I should try?

Thanks
David

 Here's some list (that Hans sent me some time ago)

I updated the documentation of t-mathsets. Please use the currently
uploaded module.

BTW, how does syncronization with CTAN work. I never uploaded my module to
CTAN, but it is available on CTAN (I assume, because it was also included
in texlive 2007). When updating modules on garden, should I also update
them on CTAN, or does CTAN syncronization happens automatically, or does
it happen once every year (with texlive)?

  http://minimals.contextgarden.net/current/modules/
 (t-tikz should not be included, and )

 Why not tikz?

The tikz module is just a repackaging of tikz files in TDS. tikz will be
included in texlive in the correct directory structure, so we do not need
to have duplicates.

 Maybe

$ env MPX_INPUT_TRACE=3 context ...

 will give some hint about what mtxrun is doing.

$ MTX_INPUT_TRACE=3 context
MtxRun | ! using suffix based filetype: lua
MtxRun | ? blobpath asked: context.lua
MtxRun | ? filename: context.lua
MtxRun | - readable: ./context.lua
MtxRun | ! using suffix based filetype: lua
MtxRun | ? blobpath asked: mtx-context.lua
MtxRun | ? filename: mtx-context.lua
MtxRun | - readable: ./mtx-context.lua
MtxRun | ! using suffix based filetype: lua
MtxRun | ? blobpath asked: mtx-contexts.lua
MtxRun | ? filename: mtx-contexts.lua
MtxRun | - readable: ./mtx-contexts.lua
MtxRun | ! remembered: mtx-context.lua
MtxRun | unknown script: context

It seems that mtxrun has no idea where to look for mtx-context.lua. Any
suggestions?

Thanks,

Jesse

 I have:

 LUAINPUTS=.;$TEXMF/tex/{context,plain/base,generic}//:$TEXMF/scripts/context/lua
 TEXMFSCRIPTS=.;$TEXMF/tex/{context,plain/base,generic,}//;$TEXMF/scripts/context//

 and I strongly suspect both are needed. After adjusting the value(s),
 you will have to rerun luatools --generate.

 I modified texmf.cnf to give these variables those values, but I still
 get the same error, even after luatools --generate. Further

What does MPX_INPUT_TRACE=3 luatools --generate say?

 I updated the documentation of t-mathsets.

Thanks.

 Please use the currently uploaded module.

That's intended anyway.

 BTW, how does syncronization with CTAN work.

Doesn't. Some people from CTAN check manually from time to time.

 I never uploaded my module to
 CTAN, but it is available on CTAN (I assume, because it was also included
 in texlive 2007). When updating modules on garden, should I also update
 them on CTAN,

No, we'll try to sort that out now.

 or does CTAN syncronization happens automatically, or does
 it happen once every year (with texlive)?

It doesn't happen yet, but I hope that we they will set it now.
