with Mark II (but not all) (I've attached pdf output and logs).

I use a freshly installed ubuntu 9.04

It seems you are using the texlive install from ubuntu. Normally, I
would advise installing the minimals (see http://wiki.contextgarden.net/ConTeXt_Minimals
 ), but the ConTeXt beta is a bit unstable these days. I have run
your essai.tex here and get proper output both in mkii and mkiv.

I've installed the module (in my ~/texmf).
I've added in /etc/environment the variable
TEXMFCNF=/usr/share/texmf/web2c in order for luatools and MarkIV to
work. cf
http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Debian_installation#Postscript:_Mark_IV
(the exemple file works)

Yes, your logs indicate that the module and its submodules are found,
so the installation is correct.

versions :
$ texexec --lua -v
TeXExec | version 6.2.0 - 1997-2006 - PRAGMA ADE/POD

$ luatools -v
LuaTools | version 1.2.0 - 2006+ - PRAGMA ADE / CONTEXT

$ luatex -v
This is LuaTeX, Version snapshot-0.28.0-2009041620

I hope that you have some hints on what I might have wrong,
In mark IV, it looks like I have a version problem for metafun, but
I'm

not sure and don't now how to get the version number.

Best regards
Amaël Broustet

In order to get the version number, simply look at the log files. It
says in the first few lines:

ConTeXt  ver: 2008.05.21 15:21 MKII  fmt: 2009.4.29  int: english/
english

and

ConTeXt  ver: 2008.05.21 15:21 MKIV  fmt: 2009.5.5  int: english/english

So your ConTeXt version is almost a year old. For mkiv, which is
moving very fast, this means the stone age, and I don't think anybody
will be able or willing to help you with such an old version. The
problem in the mkiv log is that your metafun version is not able to
process the background (after l. 80), that's why you don't get any
graphics. In mkii, I don't see anything obvious in the log. But as I
wrote: your example compiles fine here on the latest version

ConTeXt  ver: 2009.05.06 16:26 MKII  fmt: 2009.5.7  int: english/english

so you should try and install the minimals. It's no problem having
them in addition to your system TeX installation, they shouldn't
interfere.

- footnote marks are missing in the text

Well, ATM I've some problems with headers and ToC, but I guess that's
only in my setup; couldn't reproduce it in my minimal example.

BTW (1) font problems:

I'm using TeX Gyre and some Type1 fonts with MkIV nearly without
problems; didn't need to copy any files like you.

Only \sc with TeX Gyre serif fonts (Pagella, Schola, Termes, Bonum)
gives really ugly spacing - maybe a problem of the fonts' internal
kerning. Sans serif fonts (Heros, Adventor) look ok in small caps.

Strangely this wrong spacing sometimes bleeds into the whole non-
smallcaps text, but I couldn't reproduce that in a minimal example.

Additionally, cursor doesn't work, only courier.

\starttypescript[gyr-mix]
	\definetypeface	[gyr-mix]	[rm]	[serif]	[schola] % pagella, bonum,

2009-05-07 Thread Amaël Broustet
Thank you !!
As I wrote, I have a blank pdf (size is only 1700 bytes).
From the log (attached below), it's a problem with fonts :
there is a whole page of

simpleslides: loading default font setup
define font | font with name unknown is not found
define font | unknown font unknown, loading aborted
define font | unable to define unknown as \*24ptsstfss*

I'm reading messages about beta and font generation, maybe it's related.

Hmm, I get proper output with the test document you sent, and I'm
using the same version you are. Just to be safe, could you run these
commands

1. rm ~/context/tex/texmf-cache/luatex-cache/*

2. luatools --generate

3. context --make

4. then rm all essai.tu* files and process essai.tex again with mkiv:

5. context essai

Sorry you're having so much trouble, as you may have seen, mkiv is
having a particularly busy time right now; things will probably calm
down during the next days.

Yes, I figured out
http://pragma-ade.nl/context/beta/cont-tmf.zip

However, I have been unable to test ANY recent version as the installations on
my test machine are hopelessly broken. In producing real work using context, I
have reverted to an ancient (several week-old) installation on a backup
(stable) machine.

Maybe I should just wait another hour until the minimals on the garden get
updated before asking any more questions ;-)

Ja, Blockhaus vorm Kopf, sorry.

Unfortunately it is critical, where to put \expanded, and I tend to

Therefore the minimal example is fixed; header and toc handlings seems

[NTG-context] gVim complier plugin question

2009-05-07 Thread Michael Bynum
I was trying to get the context compiler plugin for gvim working, but
I think I may be misunderstanding something about the instructions. I
keep getting a compiler not found error when I try to set the
compiler so I must have done something wrong.

I downloaded the texexec.vim plugin from
http://www.vim.org/scripts/script.php?script_id=1925 and copied it to
/usr/share/vim/vim70/compiler/texexec.vim
I then opened a context file with gvim and typed :compiler=texexec
and I get E666: compiler not supported: =texexec

It seems like it must be a small mistake, but I'm at a loss to figure
out what it is. Does anyone know what I did wrong?

Thanks,
Mike

/usr/share/vim/vim70/compiler/texexec.vim
I then opened a context file with gvim and typed :compiler=texexec
and I get E666: compiler not supported: =texexec

Sorry, that is a typo in the instructions. You should type

:compiler texexec

(without the = sign)

Thanks, that fixed my problem. I installed both of the syntax and
indent files. It wasn't immediately obvious to me what the indent
file does.  Should it
autoindent something like this without me having to manually tab over?

\setuphead[subsection]

Hi Hans,
so you're back from Bachotek and ready to attack the bugs? The beta
you uploaded today is still badly broken. Most of this has been
reported before; I just collect it here for your convenience :-)

Sorry Thomas, but you forgot one:

5. Footnotes
- footnote marks are missing in the text
- footnote numbering is strange (e.g. jumps from 3 to 24 and from 29 to
210 in my project - that was 2.4, 2.9 and 2.10 before, I guess, but
these aren't even the right part or chapter numbers; in my minimal
example the numbers are chapternumber footnotenumber)

Can I motivate you (Hans etc.) to fix this anyhow? Swiss Chocolate?
Money? Prayers?

let me think about that ...

anyhow, a new beta with some footnote fixes ... keep in mind that we're
moving towards more control and some settings have changed:

\setupnote[footnote][numberconversion=set 1]

there are a lot of new keys (see top of strc-ini.tex) depending on what
number is used; the settings travel with the number

also, footnotes are now enumerations and can have subnotes which is
handy for users like Idris and Thomas who normally have more notes than
text in their documents so any additional structure helps

one: \footnote{Note One}
sub one: \subfootnote{Sub Note One}
sub two: \subfootnote{Sub Note Two}
sub sub one: \subsubfootnote{Sub Sub Note One}

but it needs documentation

With a small modification optional arguments are possible.

  \def\TextWithSpaces#1#{\framed#1\bgroup\afterassignment\obeyspaces
\let\next}

This allows:

  \TextWithSpaces{A gap from here to there!}

and

  \TextWithSpaces[foregroundstyle=bold]{A gap from here to there!}

Yes, it will indent it as

\setuphead[subsection]
  [number=no,
  after={\blank[medium]},
  before={\placefloats},
  textcommand=\mysubsectionhead]

It also does some simple indentation with \start ... \stop, itemize, and
\NC.

Hmm, then I must not have something set up correctly. If I type
\setuphead[subsection] cr I do not get the indenting as you are
showing. Is there someway to check to see if the context.vim

Simpleslides comes with a test script. Try the following

  mkdir styles
  mtxrun --script simpleslides --styles=BigNumber --engine=context

This will create BigNumber-blue.pdf and BigNumber-red.pdf in the styles
directory. Are these files correct?
