[NTG-context] missing --delete flags in mtx-update.lua

2011-11-13 Thread Peter Münster
Hello,

When running first-setup.sh, some of the rsync commands are missing the
--delete flag:

/opt/context/tex/texmf-context:  ok
/opt/context/tex/texmf-linux-64: no --delete flag
/opt/context/tex/texmf:  ok
/opt/context/tex/texmf-modules:  no --delete flag

Re: [NTG-context] (long) footnotes in column sets messed up

2011-11-13 Thread Stefan Müller

Hi again,

I tried MkIV 2012 12:34 now and added
\setupfootnotes[location=columns], trying also all other values listed
in [1], at the beginning of my example below. They don't seem to do
something that looks as if it is intended behaviour.

The only thing I can do by now is using \setupfootnotes[location=text]
together with \placefootnotes after \stopcolumnset, but I don't like
that very much in my current document.

I also note that, whichever method I use to place the footnotes, the
number always ends up in the first column, never in the second (even
with \placefootnotes between \start...\stopcolumnset).

I hope someone can give me some insight here. Thanks in advance and
best regards,

Stefan

Hi folks,

please consider the following example.

The footnotes are very messed-up (overlapping, numbers all in left
column). Is there a better way to place such footnotes in column sets?
Am I doing something wrong? I'm using 20111028 22:32 MKIV.

Thank you very much in advance!

I am looking for the same functionality as the traditional TeX comment

This means, it is only meant for writing/reading comments in the source.
And its presence must not affect the typeset file, eg. the resulting PDF, in
any respect, of course!

Is the mechanism you mention best suited for that purpose?

Re: [NTG-context] margin notes at page breaks

2011-11-13 Thread Stefan Müller

Hi Hans,

sorry to bother you again with this. I just had a look again on this
issue with 2012 12:34 MkIV. In the first part of your example, I
see the three stacked footnotes and the first lines of the paragraph
moved to the next page. In your second example I get the three notes
stacked on the first page, one being in the bottom margin, and the
paragraph properly wrapped, with two lines on the first page. This
seems to be correct.

Unfortunately I don't understand how this should help me with my (now
updated) previous example:

\starttext
\dorecurse{4}{\input knuth} \blank[2*line]

\inmargin[stack=yes]{This note ends up in the bottom margin}
\input tufte
\stoptext

It still looks the same. Does the stacking only influence the behaviour
of (the breaking between) multiple margin notes?

Thank you for looking into this. Best regards,
Stefan

Hi list!

In my document I have some margin notes that appear right before a page
break and so end up in the bottom margin, see the following example.

\inmargin{This note ends up in the bottom margin}
%\margintext{This note ends up in the bottom margin}
\input tufte

Is it possible to automatically move the margin note in those cases to
the next page? I had a look at the manual where the issue is addressed.
As I understood it \margintext{...} should be able to handle this, but
it did not change anything in my example. In the garden I found
\setupinmargin[stack=yes] but this didn't help either.

This seems not to hard, but I can't find a way to fix it...

it's not supported in the current code but the next beta will have :

starttext

\dorecurse{4}{\input knuth} \blank[2*line]

\dorecurse{3}{\inmargin[stack=yes]{note}} \input tufte

\page

\dorecurse{4}{\input knuth} \blank[2*line]

\dorecurse{3}{\inmargin[stack=yes,bottomspace=10cm]{note}} \input tufte

\stoptext

with bottomspace one can set the threshold

[NTG-context] Migrating from old ConTeXt to new

2011-11-13 Thread Gerben Wierda
Hello folks,

I have been putting this off for years, but I think somewhere the coming months
I'll want to migrate from my current ConTeXt setup to the most recent one so
that when I encounter typesetting/ConTeXt problems, I will be asking for
solutions in the current actively maintained environments.

When I compile a book project, it currently looks like this:

 texexec --pdf --mode=editor  ../products/prd_book.tex
 MTXrun | kpse fallback with progname 'context' initialized in 0.047062 seconds
 TeXExec | processing document '../products/prd_book.tex'

 TeXExec | tex processing method: context
 TeXExec | TeX run 1
 TeXExec | writing option file prd_book.top
 TeXExec | using randomseed 1038

 TeXExec | tex format: cont-en

 entering extended mode
 (../products/prd_book.tex

 ConTeXt  ver: 2010.05.24 13:05 MKII  fmt: 2010.7.21  int: english/english

As I understand, I need to setup a different way to run tex. (BTW, I'm going to
migrate to MacTeX 2011 first)

Important for me is the use of Optima, which is now done in an environment
file. Will this still work?

With LuaTeX and XeTeX you can use the predefined typescript to use Optima.

LuaTeX (context file):

\usetypescriptfile[type-mac]

\setupbodyfont[optima]

\starttext
\input zapf
\stoptext

XeTeX (“context --xetex file” or ”texexec --xtx file”):

\usetypescriptfile[type-mac]

\usetypescript[optima]
\setupbodyfont[optima]

\starttext
\input zapf
\stoptext

2011-11-13 Thread Jaroslav Hajtmar

Thanks many times Wolfgang.
You were right! I forgot to regenerate the format in the standalone
version, respectively I instead regenerated ConTeXt format in TeXLive
2011, which you probably assumed in your mail :-).

Everything is in order now.

Thanks again.

[NTG-context] extra white after equation

2011-11-13 Thread Hans van der Meer
I find that the placement of an equation number makes a difference on the

I add a minimal example.

[NTG-context] url: Add macros to the ConTeXt core

2011-11-13 Thread Paul Menzel
Dear ConTeXt folks,

looking into typesetting URLs I find typesetting URLs quite cumbersome.

Maybe I have not used that feature that often so I am not seeing the
advantage to first define a URL somewhere and give it a name

\useURL[aurl]   [http://xkcd.com/149/] [] [I prefer hot
dogs.]

and then later use it.

\url[aurl]

The proposed macros(?) in the section »Tipps and Tricks« [2]

\def\href#1#2{\useURL[#2][{#2}][][{#1}]\goto{\url[#2]}[url(#1)]}
\def\ahref#1{\color[linkcolor]{\ttx \href{#1}{#1}}}
\def\fullahref#1{\color[linkcolor]{\ttx \href{#1}{http://#1}}}
\def\mailto#1{\useURL[#1][mailto:#1][][#1]\from[{#1}]}
\def\MailTo#1#2{\useURL[#1][mailto:#1][][#2]\from[{#1}]}

seem quite useful. Could they be added to the ConTeXt core(?)?

Thanks,

[NTG-context] wiki correction

2011-11-13 Thread Hans van der Meer
I think I spotted a small error in the parameterlisting of \setupformulae on
the wiki:
parameter after dimension probably should be spaceafter dimension because
calling with the former has no effect, the latter does.
Though using it does not change the difference in spaceafter between
\placeformula and \placeformula[-].

continue after the line break with the content/sentence/paragraph:

Re: [NTG-context] extra white after equation

2011-11-13 Thread Meer, H. van der
I guess I have found the culprit in the bad placement of formulas without an
equationnumber.

The minimal example I used is that found in strc-mat.mkiv, added a [-] in the
middle one.
\setuppapersize[A6][A6]
\setupformulae[spacebefore=0pt,spaceafter=0pt]
% HERE REDEFINED \dododoformulanumber
\starttext
\placenamedformula[one]{first}  \startformula a = 1 \stopformula \endgraf
\placeformula[-]   \startformula a = 2 \stopformula \endgraf
\placenamedformula {second} \startformula a = 3 \stopformula \endgraf
\stoptext

It appears that in the case of an absent equationnumber extra stretching takes
place at the position of the (now absent) equationnumber. Placing phantom ()'s
remedies this. The effect is best seen by enabling the
\rlap{\tracedformulamode}%-line.

May I ask Hans to take a look and change it in the next beta if this indeed a
correct solution? For my suggestion for the change see below.
Thanks in advance.

[NTG-context] Metafun manual section titles

Hello,

I'm trying to make some section titles which look like the ones of the metafun
manual: title and number underlined, with number in margin. I thougth it would

Actually, I'm using a frame with an overlay with a \startuniqueMPgraphic to
underline the title but I can't make a frame for both the section number which
is in the margin and the text which is not.

I tried to make the underlining of the title text extend in the margin but
it's not easy because the frame background seems to be centered automatically
on the frame. Maybe I should adjust some offsets but how can I know the size of
the section number...

Anybody can help me on that problem ?

Hi,

you can try something like this:

\setuplayout[width=middle,backspace=4cm]

\startuseMPgraphic{line}
  drawoptions(withcolor \MPcolor{\framedparameter{framecolor}}) ;
  draw bottomboundary OverlayBox withpen pencircle scaled 3pt ;

   \startframedHead

   \stopframedHead}

  \dorecurse{3}{
\chapter{Chapter #1}
\dorecurse{3}{\section{Section ##1}
  \dorecurse{3}{\subsection{Subsection}}

But I’m sure there are better solutions …

 Do you want a whole family in this size or only a single style of a font?

I need Linux Libertine as Serif, Aller as SansSerif and Aller in 35pt

My success so far:

\definefontfeature[cond][default][extend=.8]

Now some questions remain:
How can i set the size of the fonts?
\setsansfont[aller][features=cond,size=14pt]

How can i define the 35pt .8 condensed Aller?

[NTG-context] scaling the mp figure in ConTeXt

2011-11-13 Thread Jeong Dalyoung
Dear all,

I use MetaFun to create a figure and embed it using \processMPbuffer[].
for example,

\startbuffer[test]
draw fullcircle scaled 3cm;
\stopbuffer

\starttext
\placefigure[][]{}
\processMPbuffer[test]
\stoptext

But sometimes, I need to rescaling the mp figure to fit the page.
Is there a way of rescaling the figure at the stage \processMPbuffer or
\useMPgraphic?

In the above example, I got a circle of radius 3cm. How to get a circle of
radius 2cm?

Thank you for reading.

best regards,

Dalyoung

Re: [NTG-context] feature request

 That sounds a bit strange, because a paragraph doesn't end with a line break.
 That's how I usually do my comments too; just add a comment and continue
 after the line break with the content/sentence/paragraph:

 -8
 This is %some comment
 an example.
 -8

 ... will end up as: This is an example.

maybe paragraph was the wrong word (even though in your example between
comment and an there is a pilcrow too, which is commonly used to denote
individual paragraphs).

that's what I meant: a true in-line comment ... without a line-break,
parapgraph-break, pilcrow for ending the comment:

This is ¿some comment¡ an example.
