Yes, but as you said earlier, you'll still have to do something about GIFs. It

[NTG-context] multi-page floats

2012-05-27 Thread Henning Hraban Ramm

Hi again,
in my current book project there are sets of full-page graphics, where
there’s first a drawing, to be printed on transparent paper, followed
by a water colour picture as background, i.e. a series of

right page: foreground graphic
right page: background graphic

The transparent pages are left out in pagination.
Between chapters (i.e. stories), the following macro does what I want:

\def\DoublePic#1{
\page[right] % foreground picture on transparent paper

\setuppagenumbering[state=stop]\setuppagenumber[state=stop]\par
\resetlayer[bg]
	\setlayer[bg]{\externalfigure[#1-fore][height=\dimexpr(\paperheight
+6mm)]}

\setupbackgrounds[page][background=bg]
\strut\par % page needs some content

\page[right] % background picture on normal paper

\setuppagenumber[state=start]\par
\resetlayer[bg]
	\setlayer[bg]{\externalfigure[#1-back][height=\dimexpr(\paperheight
+6mm)]}

\setupbackgrounds[page][background=bg]
\strut\par

\page
\setuppagenumbering[state=start]
}

Now, the publisher would like to move the picture pages in the middle
of the stories, i.e. I need them to float here without manual page
breaking.

How can I achieve that?

I’d also appreciate enhancements to my macro above.

(MkIV latest beta on OSX Intel.)

Thank you very much in advance!

 Nice work! Decent and nice design, good typesetting, I assume some hand work
 which of course cannot be avoided to make the result pleasing.

thank you for the positive feedback. The example thesis has a lot of hand work.
However, in the end I would like to have something that looks 95% instead of
100%, but fully automatic. Then, I could output the same text in different
output formats (book, handouts for every chapter, e-reader, ...), tweaking
every file would cost too much time.

 Just two remarks to the layout. Figure descriptions set in to the block
 (narrow column) produces too large spaces in the lines often. Ragged text
 would suit it better, I think.

Seven Thesis were made, so far, and everyone plays a little with the overall
design to see how things look when tweaked a little. But justified is not
ideal, I agree.

 Side notes set ragged left (rigth justyfied) on left pages are quite
 difficult to read, I would make them ragged right (left justified) on all
 pages and.

I guess you want to say [...] it would [not] break the overall design at all
;) I like the look of ragged outer when just looking at a double page from far.
It does make reading more difficult. I still cannot decide. In the end
legibility should be more important, so ragged right is better like you said.

 Just wondering, why is Optima-Regular embeded so many times?

We wanted to have a sans serif font for the viewgraphs that matches the
Palatino (orig. 1948). So we went for Optima (1952-1955 and also from Hermann
Zapf). Wikipedia says Optima's capitals (like Palatino's) are directly derived
from the classic Roman monumental capital model [...]. I think, it does look
good together. We also wanted a TeX Gyre font as main font, so that it is
available on every system.

 Regards,

 Jano

Aditya Mahajan contextified the github sources. It might be good to download
the new stuff. Thanks for the help.

[NTG-context] Math fonts in TeXLive 2012

2012-05-27 Thread Tim Steenvoorden
Hi all,

I'm testing some math fonts with ConTeXt in the current TeXLive
pretest (2012.05.25 18:21). I'm not sure which are supposed to work
with MKIV, but I found typescripts for the following ones in
type-imp-*.mkiv which are also included in TeXLive:

* Latin Modern
* Euler
* Asana
* Palatino (px)
* Times (tx)
* Utopia (mathdesign)
* Charter (mathdesign)
* Garamond (mathdesign)
* Antykwa Torunska
* Iwona
* Kurier
* Xits

Compiling the example in the attachment I found than Euler and all
Mathdesign derivatives are not working.

Does anyone know if Millenial will be supported by TeXLive 2012? Also
MKII supported Fourier (for Utopia and Schoolbook). What is the status
of this font in MKIV?

Cheers,
Tim

P.S. Euler is working in the 2012.05.26 16:40 Standalone version.

[NTG-context] bibtex sample file and possible bibtex bug

2012-05-27 Thread Andy Thomas
Hello,

while looking to include a citation in a sample document, I was wondering if
the 'sample.bib' in 'standalone/tex/texmf-context/tex/context/bib/sample.bib'
can be used the same way as e.g. '\input tufte', but I could not make it work.

example document:

\setupbibtex[database=sample,sort=author]
\setuppublications[alternative=apa]

\starttext
document.\cite[Eijkhout1991]
\placepublications[criterium=all]
\stoptext

Also note that the 'alternative=apa' line leads to 'publications warning:
unknown cite argument Eijkhout1991 on line \the\inputlineno' instead of the
actual number.

In this case \int and \sum are of the same size, so it appears as a design

DisplayOperatorMinHeight.

BTW, what is the status of Pagella Math? Should we default to that instead

Pagella didn't get much testing so far, it has not even been imported
into TeX Live yet and it didn't get on CTAN yet. There are some known
issues (Hans wrote some workarounds, but from what Khaled wrote
LuaLaTeX still bails out.)

I would prefer to have support for px fixed (which probably has to be
done anyway) and switch to pagella soon after TL freeze, rather then
get completely unexpected surprizes.
