Re: [NTG-context] 'kern': TrueType table and GPOS lookup feature

2012-12-02 Thread Steve White
Hi all,

I finally got something like Pablo's test working on my system. It doesn't
show much new. As had already been established, with the right ConTeXt
switches, OpenType features of kerning and ligatures work correctly with
FreeSerif.

Find attached. If there's a better way to do this, please comment: I may
put some of this in the FreeFront usage notes. (Hm... I may tighten the
italic y a bit.)

A question remains: Why does ConTeXt (like some other TeX derivatives that
use OpenType) not determine the OpenType script of runs of text from the
Unicode (or other encoding) character range? All other font layout systems
I know of do this. (Remember- a run of text in the OpenType sense is not
the same as the scope of a TeX environment, it is typically a word,
separated by white space or punctuation.)

Maybe there is some rationale, but I haven't heard it yet.

Let me propose a different interpretation for the existing 'script' setting
as used in the \definefontfeature command in the attached tex file:

* If it is not present, the engine would revert to using the script
indicated by the encoding for each run of text.

* If it is present, it would mean activate only features that match the
specified script.

It appears to me this would not change the rendering of many documents, if
any, but it would alleviate the confusion that gave rise to this thread.

Cheers!

I can assure you, this fonts/ directory was not in the list produced by
the mtxrun command on my system.

Something is different between your system and mine.
This might be worth investigating. (But I won't have time for it!)

Perhaps you have a file somewhere that adds this other directory. This is
my best guess.

It is also possible something was left over on my system from the previous
distro installation. However I removed that installation with the dpkg
--purge command, which should have removed all settings files. I didn't
alter any configuration files myself, I only tried (unsuccessfully) to run
context on some tex files.

As I had only turned context on a few times, and never done any
configuration, it is easy to reproduce my setup: Start with the latest
Ubuntu, and install the 'context' package.
Then remove it with --purge, and follow your instructions to install the
recent 'context' in /opt.

Cheers!

It appears to be a viewer issue.

 \pdfcompresslevel=0
 \setupinteraction[state=start]
 \starttext
 \externalfigure[clip.mov][height=2cm, width=2cm, preview=yes]
 \stoptext

 The pdf file has

 /Type /Annot

 (clip.mov)
 /Rect [70.867 657.6468 127.5599 714.3397]

so, ConTeXt appears to be including the right annotation, but the viewer
(acroread) is not rendering the movie.

Your example works on my Mac with Adobe Reader 10.1.4, with one of my own .mov
files substituted. The pdf code is the same, except with a different filename.

Thanks for checking. This means that it is a viewer issue on Linux :-(

[NTG-context] Reading product environment within a component file

2012-12-02 Thread Romain Diss
Hi all,

Since I read the thread concerning the LaTeX \includeonly equivalent, I tried
again to make to project structure work for me (I gave up some time ago).

Here is my problem:
I have a product file p.tex
%% p.tex
\startproduct p
 \environment e
 \component c
 \component d
\stopproduct
%% end

an environment file e.tex
%% e.tex
\startenvironment e
% style commands...
\stopenvironment
%% end

and two component files c.tex and d.tex
%% c.tex (d.tex is the same file, except content part)
\setupreferencing[autofile=yes]
\setupinteraction[state=start]
\startcomponent c
 \product p
 % content
\stopcomponent

but no project file.

When I run context on the product file, everything is ok. But when I run
context on one component file, it doesn't read the environment file because
the \product command doesn't seem to be read (that's what I understand from
the documentation). So, how should I do to inform context to read the
environment mentionned in the product file. Is it obligatory to use a project
file to be able to read the parent environment when processing a component?

Another question which I think is linked to the previous one is: is one
supposed to run context on a component? My different tests shows that a run on
a component load all the other components mentionned in the product. So it
seems to be equivalent to run context on a product or on a component (except
for the environment problem mentionned before). That's also what the wiki
seems to say (http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Project_structure):
In addition, you have to keep in mind that when compiling a product or
component file, ConTeXt goes up to the project file and compiles everything
it finds in there that is not a \product.

So, actually, I'm not able to reproduce the \includeonly equivalent with
\component (even if I use \setupreferencing[autofile=yes] and
\setupinteraction[state=start]).

Do I miss something?

All the best.

FWIW, Adobe Acrobat Reader 11.0 installs and runs on Xubuntu 12.04 i386
(at least the normal functions run, haven't tried any of the oddball stuff).

You can use Pandoc (http://johnmacfarlane.net/pandoc/) to convert from
context to multiple output formats, including txt, html, markdown...
even office!
Hope this helps.

2012-12-02 Thread Sietse Brouwer
Hi Kip,

I had the same problem. This is the advice I got (in an unrelated
off-list e-mail):

Sietse wrote:
! Math error: parameter \Umathquad\displaystyle is not set.

Aditya wrote:
That usually means that the math font is not set.

And indeed the math font is not set, due to a filename error. Apply
the change below, and math will compile again.

% type-imp-latinmodern.mkiv
\starttypescript [\s!math] [modern,latin-modern]
\loadfontgoodies[lm]
-\definefontsynonym [LMMathRoman-Regular]
[\v!file:lmodernmath-regular.otf]
[\s!features=\s!math\mathsizesuffix,\s!goodies=lm]
-\definefontsynonym [LMMathRoman-Bold]
[\v!file:lmodernmath-regular.otf]
[\s!features=\s!math\mathsizesuffix,\s!goodies=lm]
+\definefontsynonym [LMMathRoman-Regular]
[\v!file:lmodern-math.otf]
[\s!features=\s!math\mathsizesuffix,\s!goodies=lm]
+\definefontsynonym [LMMathRoman-Bold]
[\v!file:lmodern-math.otf]
[\s!features=\s!math\mathsizesuffix,\s!goodies=lm]
\stoptypescript

Probably related: recent changes to math font filenames.
