Nice, but I can not get it work with utf yet. I try

\enableregime[utf]
%\useencoding[uc] Don't work with it uncommented either.

\definetypeface [russian]
  [rm] [serif] [computer-modern] [default] [encoding=cm-super-t2a]
% neither with encoding=t2a nor cyr

\setupbodyfont[russian]

\starttext
   % Some russian characters
\stoptext

However, if I type \char 212 for example, I get a capital \Phi, as it
should be. How shoule a minimal working file look like?

Hm, I am entering utf8 code. I am not sure how it got converted in the
email, however, when I type my .tex file I am sure that it is in
utf-8. But you mean that this example should work?

I attatch the testfile and the resulting pdf and logs and so on...

Re: [NTG-context] help - spine centered figure

2005-01-29 Thread Ciro A. Soto
Sorry, I made a typo error. The title of the book I am
reading is Goodbye Gutenberg by Valerie
Kirschenbaum.
A book I recommend for any person interested in
book design, typography, history, reading, fonts, etc.

 Hello all,

I am reading a beautifully designed book called
'Boodbye Gutenberg, and it gave me inspiration to
change the design of my self-published novel.
 However,
I wonder if with my limited knowledge in Contet I
 can
make it happen. Here it is:

Version 1: The text is standard, justified both
 sides.

When the reader opens the book I want him/her to see
 a
background light-gray picture centered in the spine
 of
the book from the top of the page to the bottom.
 (The
picture is a guitar with the strings along the
 spine),
I would like half of the guitar in the left page,
 and
half in the other page. In other words,
there would be a bleeding picture to the right of
 the
left page, and a bleeding picture to the left of the
right page. The text would be black, and the guitar
would be seen as background. I know it is difficult
 to
follow my explanation, but I hope you understand.

Version 2: The text is wrapped around the figure,
 that
is, each line in the left page is left justified,
 but
ends at the border of the picture. And each line in
the right page is right justified, but begins at the
 border of the picture.

I am hoping to get the version 1. The other version
is like an exercise for me, to see how it would be
 done.

I have tried with layers for the background picture,
and it works, but I don't know how to tell Context
 to
use alternative pictures, one for the left pages,
another for the right pages. My apologies for the
 length ...

 thank you

[NTG-context] runaway argument context(mswintex)

2005-01-29 Thread Julian Haworth
Hi

I have downloaded the minimal mswin distribution of context and set it up. I
get a runaway argument once \tex\texmf-local/tex/context/base/spec-fdf.tex has
been loaded, see below. Is this normal?

Previously I had been trying to set up the current version of MiKTeX to work
with context, this since the end of November. I had it working before but it
ran out of capacity when imposing an 11000 word document -- not very
impressive. Trying to improve things just broke it. I used MiKTeX because
WinEdt answered my needs, however if I can get the pragma-ade minimal tex
distribution working correctly is it possible to integrate WinEdt. Thanks for
your interest, please save me from Pagemaker 7.0.

[NTG-context] style.pdf

2005-01-29 Thread mickle
In updating my context documentation today, I managed to overwrite my
copy of .../general/manuals/style.pdf, which I was studying. Is this
document still available, perhaps renamed - it don't find it in the list
of files in http://www.pragma-ade.nl/wget.txt.

Thank-you

[NTG-context] pdfeTeX crashes

2005-01-29 Thread Mojca Miklavec
I have MikTeX still installed and I downloaded
context/install/mswincontext.zip (6.12.04) as well (I compile ConTeXt
sources with F7 within scite).

The latter started to behave strange just in the middle of the black.
I have a document with 30 sites and about 3MB (some high resolution
images) which worked just fine until some point. After 10 minutes
pdfeTeX started crashing (and asking if the problem should be reported
to Microsoft).

If I compile the same document under MikTeX, it works just fine (except
that I can't use \setupbodyfont[phv,ss,14.4pt] command). If I compile
the document in some other directory (with no images) it works as well.

Even more strange: after removing font definitions (both
\setupbodyfont[phv,ss,14.4pt] and
\usetypescript[adobekb][texnansi]
\usetypescript[times][texnansi]
\setupbodyfont[times,ss]
cause problems) I get some strange error reports (see below), which I
have to skip with some unusual combinations of Ctrl-C and quit, but the
file compiles without a crash.

The problem was most probably caused by PNG images, exported from MS
PowerPoint slides, an example is on
http://pub.mojca.org/mailinglists/context/alpha.png.

They look just fine in any viewer, but as soon as I remove them,
everything works perfect again.

It looks like a very strange bug. Any ideas?
Mojca
