you can put the minimal context in for instance
  mkdir /mytex
after that run
  . /mytex/setuptex /mytex
make sure that the file in /mytex/texmf-linux/bin path have the x flag set
  texexec --make --all
should work then

This is pdfeTeX, Version 3.14159-1.00b-pretest-20020211-HO20020731-2.1 (Web2C
7.3.7)
kpathsea: Running mktexfmt cont-en.efmt
fmtutil: no info for format `cont-en'.
Sorry, I can't find the format `cont-en.efmt'; will try `context.efmt'.
kpathsea: Running mktexfmt context.efmt
fmtutil: no info for format `context'.
I can't find the format file `context.efmt'!
strange, we have a newer pdftex version now; also, efmt is replaced by fmt
I already have a working distribution of TeX on my system. I know I need
to move some directories around and set up PATH to find the executable,
but I am at a loss what to move.
you can keep the minimal context in a separate three; the setup script isolates
it from other tex's on your system

Re: [NTG-context] Euro-sign

2005-02-22 Thread Johannes Werner
\usesymbolset[eur] is an undefined control sequence for my system (tetex
2.0.2 with now proper setup context), but \texteuro and \euro work. (is
this the meaning of present in the encoding vector? i'm a context newbe)

Hello,
what i have to do, to get the euro into my document? Is there any
documentation ? (surely i'm not the first with this question, but i
cannot find something)
I tried \euro, but nothing happened.
mfg, Johannes Werner

\usesymbolset[eur]
now you have \texteuro as well as \symbol[euro] and even \euro
often \texteuro is present in the encoding vector

[NTG-context] Moving to ConTeXt

2005-02-22 Thread Gerben Wierda
I am (again) considering moving to ConTeXt. A few years ago I investigated
the move because I have apositive impression of the quality of the ConTeXt
project and because I find the standard LaTeX layouts ugly. At that time I
decided against it because the first thing I tried (a list within a list)
did not work and because I was under the impression that I would have to
do alot of layout myself (and I have TeX for that, right?). I am thinking
of using LaTeX and the memoir class. Anyway, I am still tempted.

So I am investigating again. I would like to know if (and how) I can do
the following in ConTeXt. I did read the manual before writing this:
- Project structure for a book, chapters to be in separate files. Chapters
to be processed individually when required, or better: chapter +
index/toc/appendices, etc. How do you do that? I do not understand the
manual here entirely and my test from a few years ago failed.
- lettrine.sty (I have my own TeX code now, but lettrine is probably better)
- Page layout as in a book (no whitespace between pars and indentation).
Good readable.
- mfpic or another way to program drawings (vectors/functions)
- microtype.sty (protrusion,probably no stretching)
- Optional paragraph (not line) numbering, suppressable (as in some
philosophy books)
- 2 output options:
- Final: Large paperback size (somewhat larger than pocket) pages
centered on A4 portrait paper
- Draft: Two of those pages, slightly shrunk on A4 landscape paper.
No fancy ordering, just page 0-1, 2-3, 4-5, etc.

So, how do I do these things? I would like to try to recode a part ofmy
book-project in ConTeXt to see if it works for me.

Thanks,

G

[NTG-context] m-letter stationary

2005-02-22 Thread Rob Ermers
Dear Contexers,
I have succeeded in creating letters on my pdf stationary-1. Beautiful.
Now I want to print the second and following pages on paper with on a
slightly different stationary (stationary-2), as is costumary.

Does anyone how to set this up?
(The example on the wiki is too complicated for me. I sticked to sample
files from Hans Hagen, which makes it possible to use an xml address
database.)

The present set up for the background is given below.
Kind regards,
Robert Ermers
\useexternalfigure[achtergrond][stationary-1.pdf][]
\definelayer[achtergrond]
\setupbackgrounds[page][state=repeat,background={achtergrond}]
\setlayer[achtergrond][x=0in,y=0in]{\externalfigure[stationary-1.pdf]}

[NTG-context] XML and context

2005-02-22 Thread Paul Tremblay
I've been looking over some articles published on context and XML,
nameely http://www.pragma-ade.com/show-mag-9.htm.

According to this article, there is a Relax schema for an XML version of
context. The namespace is 'http://www.pragma-ade.com/rlg/foxet.rng'.

This implies that the Relax schema can only be used if using FO, or? I
was wondering if could directly convert to the XML at the namespace
above and then process the resulting document with context.

This would be easier than using the mapping method.

Thanks

Paul
