For example, to get the Hàn Thế Thành's name in the Author's field of the PDF manual properly, one should probably write something like /Author(feff 0048 00e0 006e 0054 0068 1ebf 0054 0068 00e0 006e 0068), without the spaces and with characters instead of the corresponding hex-code. (Note: If someone writes ConTeXt support for it, be careful about escaping parenthesis for U+29xx - not that anyone would need those arrows in comments, but you never know.) feff ("byte order mark", whatever that means) at the beginning seems to be only a switch for multi byte encoding inside the parenthesis. I didn't try this out yet, so perhaps I'm missing something else here as well. If anyone knows how to try it out, please report if it works. I guess that another encoding, similar to enco-pdf should be defined first and then used inside the \doPDFsetupidentity definition. If characters other than those present in one-byte pdf encoding are present in an argument (Author, Comment, ...), than this more advanced encoding should be used for that field. Out of curiosity: can you manually write Vietnamese characters to those fields in Adobe? I have a feeling that they loose the second accent if I copy-paste some double-accented characters, but I don't know if this is just a visual effect/lack of proper fonts or if it really isn't supported. Sorry, I checked once more and it *is* only a lack of proper fonts (or perhaps a visual effect). "Numerical" values of the characters seem to be OK. Hi everybody, Taco solved the problem in a private exchange of emails this evening by suggesting, based on the log file I sent him, that the ushyphmax file in my system could be in the wrong format. It was wrong indeed. It should contain the string \pattern{ ... patterns ... }. Thanks a lot, Taco, I am much indebted to you. [NTG-context] Upgrading ConTeXt and testing
Dear gang, I understand that ConTeXt is a HUGE system, and it is impossible for Hans to micro-test everything. However, it is not infrequent that upgrades by users lead to sometimes days of lost productivity. For example, a recent change in the indentation code ruined a 425-page manuscript and it took me hours to identify the source of the problem. And that was only one problem. Given the problems some of us have faced when upgrading, I think that we really need a test suite of documents that provide some benchmarks for each part of the system, from building supported format files to features to supported output formats. Maybe this would take a long time; but perhaps the task could be delegated among is. I would be willing to be part of that team (including but not exclusively the aleph-dvipdfmx cycle). When a new ConTeXt is released, Taco or someone else could then document which bugs are fixed, features added, and, most importantly, what features are changed or broken. That way, upgrading does not always have to be a leap in the dark with fingers crossed. The above is just an idea. I hope it can be developed into something actually workable and useful. A related point (disussed before) is that ConTeXt needs to become completely independent of the TeX distributions. mswincontext.zip is a good start (I no longer use fpTeX), but things like dvipdfmx and the plain format (for testing purposes) need to be thoroughly supported and tested. Again, a support team for Hans is needed (especially for Mac OSX and Unix), and I'm willing to help as far as my skills will allow. Re: [NTG-context] tcsh: texexec: Command not found.
Yes, it sounds like there is no TeX installation anymore, Chances are that it's still in the "Previous System" directory. You can try to copy it over: sudo cp -r /"Previous System"/usr/local/teTeX /usr/local8 The tricky part is the "Previous System." I don't know what this directory is really called, but if the name doe contain a space. you'll have to "escape" it, either by putting quotation marks around it or by using \. The next step would be to put the appropriate directory in your $PATH. You could either rerun Gerben's installer, or just open the file /etc/profile in a text editor (you'll need root privileges to do that) and add the appropriate lines: ## TeX modifications start at Sun Aug 28 ## Do not remove the previous line if [ `whoami` != "root" ] then PATH="$PATH:/usr/local/teTeX/bin/powerpc-apple-darwin6.8" export PATH fi ## Do not remove the next line ## TeX modifications end at Sun Aug 28 at the end of the file. Save, open another shell, and you should be back in business. I take it that my installation has been crunched, and my guess is that it happened in the process of configuring the cloned backup for use on my laptop (i.e., in installing the version of OSX appropriate for a PowerBook as opposed to the original PowerMac). [NTG-context] [Fwd: ConTEXt Newbie: Column/table background color - which table model/command?]
Hi all, Forwarding this from c.t.t. It looks like perhaps the OP's code is correct and something in ConTeXt is wrong (at least I cannot find anything wrong with the example code, even with \setupcolors[state=start], I get no background color). Perhaps somebody who has actually used table backgrounds can help? Taco Original Message Subject: ConTEXt Newbie: Column/table background color - which table model/command? Date: 26 Aug 2005 08:39:16 -0700 From: A. Lucas <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Organization: http://groups.google.com Newsgroups: comp.text.tex I've only recently discovered ConTEXt and grabbed all the documentation I could find (but not quite read it). My question: If I want column background and line color, do I need METAPOST or is there a simpler way to do it? I need a multi-page table with continuous, but different columns widths and running headers on every new page - could/must I use btable (XML environment)? The \backgroundcolor and \background commands don't seem to work with \setuptables and \starttable(s). Example: - \placetable[here][tab:setuptables]{Ships that moored at Hasselt.} {\setuptables[bodyfont=10pt,rulethickness=6pt,background=color,backgroundcolor=red] \starttable[|cw(5cm)|cTw(3cm)|]%'|' wird hier nicht gedruckt, dient als column separator; mit w(...) width festsetzen \HL%horizontal line \VL \bf Year \DC \bf Number of ships \VL\SR%new colum bold font seperate row \HL \VL 1645 \DC 450 \VL\FR%first row \VL 1671 \DC 480 \VL\MR%mid row \VL 1676 \DC 500 \VL\MR \VL 1695 \DC 930 \VL\LR%last row \HL \stoptable} -- I get the thick border but no colors.
