Hi Gavin,

Two things:

(This doesn't look like the problem here, but) Are you running the
latest ConTeXt? There was a bug in the OpenType support in TeXFont that
was fixed in the distribution as of a couple months ago.

Adam Lindsay's recent article OpenType installation basics for
ConTeXt in The PracTeX Journal
(http://www.tug.org/pracjourn/2005-2/lindsay) is very well written.
Unfortunately, I was unable to perform the first step.

As the article specified, I ran the command:

$ texfont --ma --in --ve=public --co=torunska --lcdf --pre --va=liga,kern

It started off OK, but failed to properly create the map file.
Selected output follows:

   extending map file :
E:/MiKTeX/local/fonts/map/pdftex/context/texnansi-LIGA-KERN-public-
torunska.map

  font identifier : AntykwaTorunska-Bold - text - tfm
processing files : otf - tfm + enc
otftotfm: './AntykwaTorunska-Bold.otf': No such file or directory
no mapfile from otftotfm : texfont.map

  font identifier : AntykwaTorunska-BoldItalic - text - tfm
processing files : otf - tfm + enc
otftotfm: './AntykwaTorunska-BoldItalic.otf': No such file or directory
no mapfile from otftotfm : texfont.map

[and so on for each .otf file]

So, otftotfm is claiming that the files don't exist, but they
absolutely 100% do. Perhaps it's looking for them somewhere else?

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Regards,
Gavin

[NTG-context] ConTeXt, debian and wiki

2005-09-07 Thread David Marsal
Hello,

I would like to specify some stuff about ConTeXt on Debian on the wiki,
(like tetex3 via apt-get and texfont for the beginning)

Do you prefer a very specific page for Debian or should I put the
informations on the font page, the tetex3 page etc...

thanks

Absolutely. It's a temporary directory containing those files. The

I believe so. I installed ConTeXt for the first time about 10 days

I recently downloaded the mswincontext.zip package and intend to dump

You can easily verify this by running texexec --version. The latest
version of context is 2005.08.31.

[NTG-context] cropping text

2005-09-07 Thread Peter Rolf
Hi all,

I've used \doboundtext so far, to crop my text exactly as I want it. But
now I've problems with text, that contains a \underbar token. It seems,
that \handletokens can't handle \underbar.

The other cropping alternative, \limitatetext, perfectly works with
\underbar, but it's useless for me, as it cropps off only at word
boundaries. mhh..

Is there an (more or less) easy way to solve my problem?
I don't need a full solution; any hints are welcome.

Thank you, this works better (not that I understand what it does ;)

But, I finally understand why I was confused yesterday.

\setupcolors[state=start]
\setuptype[option=TEX]
\type{\a}

does nothing (and this was what I first tried and thought that this is
not supported yet; non-existing options never raise an error anyway).

But today I tried:
\setuptype[option=TEX]
\type{\ab[cd]} % [ and ] are highlighted
\type{\a\b\c} % only \b and \c highlighted
\type+\ab[cd]{ef} %+ % everything highlighted OK

So, if the first (bug/feature?) gets fixed and the bugfix that stops
green highlighting after \type is applied, it would be much cleaner to
define:

\definetype[RAW] [\c!option=RAW]
\definetype[MP][\c!option=MP]
...
\definetype[XML] [\c!option=XML]

(as counterparts to \definetyping) than keeping those lenghty
definitions for each file type separately.

Btw: in the meantime (I last tried it in April) a bug that prevented
typing |, _ or \ (I don't remember which one exactly) after the first
position got fixed. Whenever that happened and whoever did it: thank
you very much!

Taco, you sent some patch for XML syntax highlighting some time ago.

I don't know if you fixed this one as well:
!-- some text --
The both minus signs in -- are highlighted wrong as well. The code
inside !-- ... -- is gray, but it would be great to have both
delimiters highligted as comment as well.

I'm thinking about piping the code to vim, letting the vim process it
and return something like
\highlight[Conditional]{if}\highlight[Delimiter]{(}\highlight[Identifier]{i}
...
One should modify the 2html.vim file (vim can already nicely transform
the highlighted code into HTML, so ConTeXt shouldn't be so difficult).
Vim already has over 400 sytax file definitions (probably equivalent
to some hundred thousans lines of syntax definitions in ConTeXt).
Well, I don't know (yet) how to do it, but if someone on the list has
more experience with vim, please feel free to contribute.

I believe so. I installed ConTeXt for the first time about 10 days
ago. It was a MiKTeX package, so I'm relying on that being up to
 date.

Don't rely on it. MikTeX has just updated ConTeXt (after two months).
Once during the last weekend and once on Monday (5.9.). However, the
format is from 27.7., 6 official releases ago. Minimal ConTeXt
distribution (or replacing some files in teTeX for example) is the
best way if you want to keep up-to-date. (MikTeX has some other
advantages however.)

A while ago it was much better, but now it seems that they are busy
with preparation of MikTeX 2.5.

Re: [NTG-context] some highlighted \type-ing

But, I finally understand why I was confused yesterday.

 \setupcolors[state=start]
 \setuptype[option=TEX]
 \type{\a}

does nothing (and this was what I first tried and thought that this is
not supported yet; non-existing options never raise an error anyway).

I reported this bug back in April but no one replied. The problem is
that the first character is read and then not given back the right
catcode so that the typing stuff can process it correctly.

This mainly affected me when I was trying to write inline C code, such
as \type{int a}, because the int wouldn't be highlighted as a keyword.

I'm thinking about piping the code to vim, letting the vim process it
 and return something like

 \highlight[Conditional]{if}\highlight[Delimiter]{(}\highlight[Identifier]{i}

Yes, this would definitely be a good alternative way of getting
highlighting (for free). Writing a converter shouldn't be that hard,
and writing ConTeXt code shouldn't be impossible either. Alas, I don't
have time at the moment. I need to find myself a job first; which sadly
probably won't be found in Sweden...Sweden is such a boring place when
it comes to IT,

Re: [NTG-context] cropping with \limitatefirstline

Sorry to bother you Hans, but the macro is not working as expected...

I can see the cropped text (\underbar + special symbols) and there is an
hyphen symbol in the text only example.

I've added the example code I used for tests with \limitatetext and
 \doboundtext.

 \def\limitatefirstline#1#2#3%
  {\hbox\bgroup\strut
   \setbox\scratchbox\hbox{#1}%
   \ifdim\wd\scratchbox#2\relax
 \setbox\scratchbox\hbox{#3}%
 \hsize#2\relax
 \advance\hsize-\wd\scratchbox
 \setbox\scratchbox\vbox{\forgetall\veryraggedright#1}%
 \setbox\scratchbox\vsplit\scratchbox to \lineheight
 \vbox
   {\unvbox\scratchbox
\global\setbox\plusone\lastbox
\global\setbox\plusone\hbox{\unhbox\plusone}}%
 \box\plusone\removeunwantedspaces#3%
   \else
 #1%
   \fi
   \egroup}

of course there must be something to break (not possible with the non
letters, so there you either need to add \hskip0pt's or do real clipping

I'll try to understand your code later (make no sense at 30° and I need
to read again about the \lastbox trick and unboxing).
The text will be generated from XML source, so there is no problem in
inserting something (although clipping would be the cleaner solution).
Later

So again many thanks!

Greetings,

Peter

[NTG-context] new beta

2005-09-07 Thread Hans Hagen

Hi,

I'm uploading a beta. I replaces a few font things, i.e. il2 and pl0
support is now replaced by a combination of regimes and using ec and qx.

Also, given that up install the latest latin modern zip, you can have
condensed monospaced fonts:

\definetypeface [modern] [tt] [mono] [modern-cond] [default]
[encoding=texnansi]

\setupbodyfont[modern]

\starttext

\typefile{test}

\stoptext

I'd like to see the new dense encoding (discussed on dev list) being
supported as well, but we need to generate metrics for that (can be donw
with metatype tools)

[NTG-context] No more PDF output using mptopdf

2005-09-07 Thread Jilani Khaldi

Hi All,
well, till five minutes ago the command mptopdf myfile.mp gives in
output myfile.pdf, but after playing with metafun, now I can't get in
output the myfile.pdf using the same command; however, mptopdf says
that myfile.pdf has been created, but nothing really happens.

How to get mptopdf working again?
Thanks!

Hello ConTeCters,

please, is there some trick how to suppress external graphics
inclusion into PDF, just only show dummy frames instead? I would like
to send the underworked doc with plenty of graphics for proof reading.
With graphics it has tens of MB.

I tried
  \setupexternalfigures[option=empty]
it shows only frames instead of graphics but graphics is also
included, so it resulted in no PDF file size reduction.

what happens when object=no is added

In case of my goal it is the same: graphics incorporated to PDF.

If I understand object=no correctly it prevents reusing graphics, so the
size even grows if some figures are inserted several times

(... yes, verified).
