[NTG-context] backspace makeupwidth tradeoff
Hi,
I'd like to increase the backspace at the expense of the makeupwidth. I
like to do this by adding either a scalar or a percentage of the
backspace. In the following bit of code I'd expect both sets of
\mybackspace and \mywidth macros to yield identical results, but the
don't. The scalar approach seems to work correctly, and the percentage
not.
I'd appreciate it if somebody could show me where I've gone wrong. It must
be embarrassingly simple, but I can't see it - yet. Thanks in advance.

system and as part of it I have statements like:

... will the rest of Context accept the above tfb font and size in
places
where a heading macro automatically defaults to tfb?
Only if you never make any \{setup,switchto}bodyfont switches after
your new font definitions.
if you want that, you'd say:

or better:
\usetypescript [serif] [charter] [ec]
\definefont[MyNiceBigFont][Charter-Roman at 10.45pt]
in which case you at least see what font is used, and more important,
you get the encoding for free

So I solved the problem by using the wrong encoding (texnansi) again and now ConTeXt renders those glyphs for me :) hm, did you tell th eauthors to add those glyphs? layout calculations are a bit complex and the order of key=values is not

If this is so, it's OK. [NTG-context] How to use the module [bib] to get Bibliografia and not References?
Hi All, I am using \usemodule[bib] for bibliography reference in an italian environnement : \mainlanguage[italian] \setupbodyfont[12pt] \setuppapersize[A4] \enableregime[il1] \usemodule[bib] ... but I get as a final result: References ... instead of: Bibliografia ... It seems I have missed some settings. Any hint? Inside the TFM file, it is fairly straightforward to instruct TeX to create a ligature from a followed by ` to à. That is a job for texfont or fontinst, not the font designers'. But it qualifies as a hack, not true unicode support. Anyway, no point spending time on it if nobody is going to use it. [NTG-context] Columns (text alignment)
Hi everybody.
I am experimenting with ConTeXt and columns. I am creating a simple
style and I setup 3 columns and redefined some heading (section,
subsection, subsubsections).
Now the problem is that the text at the end of the columns is not
aligned (i.e., the columns end at different heights).
I thought that this was due to the \blank commands that I specified as
before and after parameters in the heading definitions, but even by
using the flexible modifier doesn't change that behavior.
I don't know where the problem is. The tex file is attached.

P.S.: By using the attached file, I cannot specify the position
parameter for \placefigure. If I write
\placefigure{Name}{\externalfigure[...} it works.
\placefigure[btlr]{name}{\externalfigure[...} does not. Weird.
P.P.S.: I was reading the columns.pdf tutorial. I saw that a
\definecolumnsethsize command is used but I haven't found any
documentation about that command anywhere. I use width=2\textwidth which
seems to produce the same effects (2 columns span).

So it would be nice if ConTeXt could do the same :) In reality, the charset UTF-8 becomes a standard in Vietnam, and other charsets (VISCII, VPS, TCVN) are less and less used. For me, I used always UTF-8 for all my documents here (ConTeXt, OpenOffice, HTML, MySQL data,...). [NTG-context] developing large numbers of MP files for inclusion in source
Hans, Taco, et al, Our intermediate algebra text will require a large number of figures. I have two thoughts. 1. It's really inefficient to compile the entire context source file just to see what will happen to one figure. So, it seems that we should probably have a library of graphs for later inclusion in the main document. One would want to be able to compile all at once or individually if one were just working on one file. 2. The code for many individual figures is quite long and tends to obscure the flow of thought when included in the source. Again, if they were coming from an external document, that would be better. I am not looking to include the files one at a time after development. I know how to do that. Rather, I am looking for a way to gather all the source for figures in a file, compile all of the file, or just one figure from the file, then somehow call that source code into the main .tex doc during compile time. I am open to any suggestions on how to most efficiently develop and include figures (in Metapost, of course) in our main document.
