the  tag is completely independent of all other tags. I have

I have a mediawiki2... ruby script where ... is currently html and
xml. Its not perfect yet and not published anywhere, but if anybody is
interested in doing some ConTeXt stuff there

What I've been doing for some years has been to send some 1800 2-page letters 
in a shot. What change are the addresses of the recipients and some small 
parts of the text according to certain circumstances. Years ago I dismissed 
the mail-merge capabilities of MS-Word because it was unable to deal with 
that amount of letters. So I tailored a *-sty file for my letters and started 
to use latex with the textmerge. Bingo, it was THE solution!

Now I want to give ConTeXt a chance. I mean that a Context doc seems to me 
more "readable" and "intuitive" than latex. So I would have a go with ConTeXt 
to solve the same problem.

I didn't play with the exaples in this thread, but hyperlinks with
page numbers pointing to the exact locations of citations make a lot
of sense.

Well, you also have
texmfstart newtexexec.rb --pfdcombine | copy | select | trim

I don't know how exactly to use them (to hans: lines 351-359 in
newtexexec.rb, "def copyortrim" seem to be broken a bit - wrong number
of arguments), but I guess that you could combine parts of your
document together again this way (I wouldn't use this approach
however).

But what's wrong with using modular approach (to compile just the
chapter or section you're currently working on, so that it compiles
fast enough and you can fix bugs, and then compile everything together
when you need the whole document)? You don't need to change a single
line if you compile separate chapters or if you compile everything
together. Except that you might need to split the document in separate
files (using projects/products is really a great thing). If you don't
want to split your document, you can also use modes:

\starttext

\startmode[everything]
\enablemode[chapter1]
\enablemode[chapter2]
\stopmode

\chapter{Introduction}

\startmode[chapter1]
\chapter{Chapter A}
\stopmode

\startmode[chapter2]

Great! Thats exactly what i'am looking for! :) Please make this
available in the next release as option, perhaps to \setupcite? It is
quite useful for reading large documents on screen when you're able to
jump forward to the publication list and back to the referring text to
read on (the backward jump requires reader support).

I'am not sure in which scenarios the reverse referencing to the first usage
makes sense. Perhaps its more useful if the bibtex entry gets an associated
list of forward references and make this list available for usage in

Why don't you add explicit marking then? That may be easiest in
this case.

[NTG-context] Capitalisation of titles in headers

I want to ensure that the titles displayed in the header always begin
with a capital letter regarless of any truncation with \nomarking..

I tried the following in my environment but it doesn't work:

What should I use?

update I have an undefined control sequence arrow.
I can use $\rigtharrow$ but cannot understand...

Thanks Hans. This remark pointed the way. It is so simple I nearly  
feel ashamed.
\startsimplecolumns can be forced to a neat straight bottomline just  
by setting a \baselineskip without stretch or shrink. I therefore did:
\baselineskip\bodyfontsize
\advance\baselineskip (dimension)
this extra space settable with [lineskip=dimension] in the calling  
command.

By the way, I did this work in order to implement into ConTeXt the  
LaTeX files of Dennis van Dok's recent article in the NTG MAPS "Jewel  
case listings for mp3 cdroms". If the code seems stable enough, I  
will make it available through Dennis.

If I understand correctly, the 'contrastcolor' indicates a
nested/embedded link.

About those hyperlinks: it would normally be something like a chapter
number, and it would link back to the chapter head itself. In a
bibliography, it just points to itself, because the 'main reference'
is the item in the list. Maybe I can make a link back to the first
cited location. Would that make sense?
