Re: [NTG-context] lilypond newbie

2007-05-14 Thread Steffen Wolfrum
So, after extensive testing (with support from Arthur) using the
lilypond-module (as described) just doesn't work at all.

What to do now?

As it seems to be a question of several parts working / not working together,
who feels responsible?

 You cannot escape the big brother ;)

 (It's a known problem that ConTeXt versions on CTAN are often
 outdated, too.)

 If we're speaking about ConTeXt, that's partly intentional. (It gets
 updated only when Taco explicitely submits it - when he thinks the
 version is less buggy that on average.)

 If you're speaking about the modules: updates to CTAN are curretly
 manual. CTAN team asked for rsync access to the modules. Now they have
 it, but didn't respond yet. I guess it's not automatic yet ... but
 should become so sooner or later.

[NTG-context] Can't get header repetition with multipage table

2007-05-14 Thread Jean-Philippe Rey
Hello folks,

I can't get repeated headers in a multipage table. I tried the following:

%
\starttext

\starttablehead
  \HL
  \VL Column 1 \VL Column 2 \VL\SR
  \HL
\stoptablehead

\starttabletail
  \HL
  \VL Column 1 \VL Column 2 \VL\SR
  \HL
\stoptabletail

\starttables[|l|l|]
  \dorecurse{100}{\VL value \VL value \VL\SR}
  \VL value \VL value \VL\SR
\stoptables

\stoptext
%

I get a multipage table, but the header appears only at the beginning of
the table and doesn't repeat itself on each page. Same for the tail part.

I believe I am using the last ConTeXt version:

TeXExec | TeXExec | version 6.2.0 - 1997-2006 - PRAGMA ADE/POD
TeXExec | TeXUtil   | version 9.1.0 - 1997-2005 - PRAGMA ADE/POD
TeXExec | CtxTools | version 1.3.3 - 2004/2006 - PRAGMA ADE/POD
TeXExec | ConTeXt ver: 2007.04.03 13:01 MKII fmt: 2007.4.7 int:
english/english
This is pdfTeXk, Version 3.141592-1.40.3 (Web2C 7.5.6)

I tried first http://live.contextgarden.net/ but ConTeXt live seems to
be down at the moment, I always get the message the file 'texexec' is
not found.

Any help most welcome.

Thanks for report (and many special thanks to those who read all the

who they are ;)

Next time simply CC to one of the gardeners. Live is fixed now, but I
figured out that wiki is broken as well ... but since nobody submits

Beste leden,

De NTG bijeenkomst op 8 juni in de Faculteit Diergeneeskunde in

We zullen de dag besteden aan aspecten rond fonts en taal.
Onderwerpen zullen zijn:

- Fonts/ taal -- XeTeX
- Fonts -- TeXlive
- Fonts -- LuaTeX
- Font features in OTF

 you need to define a bodyfont environment

Can I get away with the following, which just does \definebodyfont for
math? It worked but maybe I'm missing a bodyfont type? Sans serif
work even without adding anything else (tested by adding \ss \input

automatically, so I'm worried!

\definebodyfont [10.5pt] [mm]
[mr=xcmr10 at 10.5pt,
 ex=cmex10 at 10.5pt,
 mi=cmmi10 at 10.5pt,
 sy=cmsy10 at 10.5pt]

\setupbodyfont[10.5pt]

[NTG-context] texexec message suppression.

2007-05-14 Thread John R. Culleton
for some time now I have been fussing over the volume of uneccessary
(to me) informational messages spewed forth by texexec, in particular
the long list of font scripts repeated sometimes 8 or 9 times. Since
I don't even use most of these scripts I wonder why they show up on
every pass of every compile. The --silent parameter to texexec
should suppress some or all of these message, or so the manual says.
But it doesn't. I get the same long list of messages, repeated over
and over.

Ideally I could suppress informational messages but keep the warning
messages, per the traditional unix and 2 output routings for
sysout and syserr. But texexec does not appear to make the
distinction.

Routing all output to /dev/null is a trick that I use sometimes, but
if the run errors off then it just hangs with no message.

Are there any clever workarounds I have missed? Is there a setting
somewhere in my texlive instllation that I can tweak? Should I do
surgery on texexec itself? (Never fooled with Ruby, but there is
always a first time.)

But it seems to need one Ruby run afterwards.

Sorry, I can't help you further, I just don't understand most of the

My 2 cents

Ideally I could suppress informational messages but keep the warning
messages, per the traditional unix and 2 output routings for
sysout and syserr. But texexec does not appear to make the
distinction.

$texexec --pdf --batch  mytest.tex  /dev/null

Routing all output to /dev/null is a trick that I use sometimes, but

if the run errors off then it just hangs with no message.

for errors
$egrep  '^\!'  mytest.log

and for figures
$ egrep 'figure.*can not be found' mytest.log

  I guess the problem is with \doiffileelse in ma-cb-setups.tex:

 # \doiffileelse{t-setup.tex}
 #   {\usemodule[setup]}  % third party t-setup.tex
 #   {\usemodule[set-11]}

  As it is (without tweaking TEXINPUTS or installing t-setup.tex
 manually), t-setup.tex isn't found in the parent directory, so
 x-set-11.tex is loaded in its place.

Why is it done this way? Isn't t-setup always supposed to be
distributed with the sources. Why not simply

\environment t-setup

If a file is being used for only one project, it should be an
environment file. If it will be used in multiple projects, it should
be a module.

Wolfgang, do you think that t-setup.tex can be added as x-set-13.tex,
or maybe even overwrite x-set-11.tex? (I have not read it carefully to
understand what are the enhancements that it provides).

  How is \doiffileelse supposed to search for files exactly?

Try to open the file for reading. If the file can be read, then read
the file, else do the else part. The check for file etc is done using
TeX's \immediate\openin\scratchread \filename, so there is no
searching for parent directories. The \project and \environment macros
have to make some effort to read files in parent directories.
