any help in conversion would be nice.

I do this quite often (ConTeXt - LaTeX), so I am just writing my thoughts
about this. A general purpose translator from ConTeXt to LaTeX is VERY
difficult, because of the nature of both macro languages. However, it is
relatively simple to convert a subset of one to the other. Currently, I
write most of my papers in ConTeXt. For the final version of the paper,
most journals want LaTeX. I know my style of writing ConTeXt, and can
easily convert 95% percent of it to LaTeX using regular expressions (and
have been thinking of exploring gema in more detail:
http://gema.sourceforge.net/). It is easier to do the rest by hand rather
than writing a script that takes care of all the corner cases. Usually it
takes me around 2 hours to convert a (30-40 page) paper from ConTeXt to
LaTeX. Since this needs to be done only once every six months or so, I
have not spent too much time trying to optimize my approach. I think that
the same will be true for conversion from LaTeX to ConTeXt. However, I
would suggest that you start by writing some ConTeXt documents by hand,
before you automate the conversion. This way, you will know what you want
to achieve from a conversion script.

This is consistent with my experience.

I suggest that anyone considering such conversions creating a simple test
document with one example of each construct you use. I took Lamport's
sample2e.tex, added a figure and a table, and then made a context version
which is part of my test suite for new tex installations.

See

You can fix those simple portions of code to output the code in your
desired format. Then you can copy tex/context/interface/* to your
working directory and run
ctxtools --sciteinterface (to get definitions for scite)
for example.

The code currently only returns a list of commands. If you want all
variants of them, the code might need to be improved a bit (also note
that it won't return you all the commands - someone should revise
cont-en.xml, but it's still reasonably good).
What about the keys? (\setuphead accepts only some keys. Does Kile
support that as well?)

Do you know http://texshow.contextgarden.net/? (not that you can use

When looking at these examples:

Once you have the basic syntax ready: can you also convince the

For example, it might be that only

Re: [NTG-context] First document — problems with bi b module and layout

Hi Matija,

I can provide partial answers to your questions.

On Sat, 29 Dec 2007, Matija Šuklje wrote:

next time the same legal act gets cited only it's abbrevation should be used.

Once I needed something similar for abbreviations. When the abbreviation
is used for the first time include the full meaning of the abbreviation in
parenthesis, later, only use the abbreviated form. The approach that I
followed was approximately

\def\mycite{\dodoubleempty\domycite}

\def\domycite[#1][#2]%
   {\doifdefinedelse{mycite:#2}
   {\cite[#1][#2]}
{cite author, title, etc.% I don't remember the exact commands
\setvalue{mycite:#2}{done}}

This way, \mycite will give the complete citation the first time, and only
the number when used later on. This does not take care of the
compatibility method of cite, viz. \cite{ref}.

Also in connection with that — is it possible (already) to utilise \useskip so
that not only the empty space of the missing field, but also it's separators
(e.g. \inserteditor{ed: }{, }{}) are being skipped?

I am not sure I understand. From what I remember, if the editor is not
present, only the last field will be used, so there will be no separators.

2007-12-29 Thread Peter Münster
Hello,

What methods do exist, to change the default engine for texexec (for
example luatex instead of pdftex)?

Cheers, Peter

Re: [NTG-context] Luatex startup difficulties

2007-12-29 Thread Willi Egger
Hi Hans,

indeed, I mistakenly commented the original lines of the first error
with % instead of --.
Hereafter I left the patch Taco gave in the file font-otf.lua.

Running texexec --lua --make --all worked then with

Compiling my simple file ended with an error:

error: ...luatex/tex/texmf-local/tex/context/base/node-ini.lua:438:

Then I reverted to the beta

texexec --lua --make --all run without problem.

Compiling my simple file worked then!

So, sorry for the noise!

Thanks for all your responses!

I tried also to switch to the snapshot version from http://

 I deleted the cache.
 After luatools --generate
 texexec --lua --make --all

taco and i need to look into it, somehow luatex behaves like an older
 version

 I get the same error:

 ! LuaTeX error ...luatex/tex/texmf-local/tex/context/base/font-
def.lua:436: attempt to index field 'otf' (a nil value).

that's because you introduced an arror in font-otf.lua
