Re: [NTG-context] Problem with lilypond module

Hi Mojca, Christopher, Hraban, Wolfgang,

since a couple of days the lilypond module doesn't work anymore.

Testfile:

\usemodule[lilypond]
\starttext
There are some notes
\lower 8.2pt\hbox{\lilypond[fragment=true]{\relative c' {c d e fis}}}
embedded in this line.
\stoptext

Context creates a file 1 with 0 Byte and a file lilypond-1 in the
current directory.
In the log i find:
!LilyPond ERROR : File 'lily1-lilypond-1.tmp' was not written!

Processing file lilypond-1 directly with lilypond works.

You're right - but like the logs says, the file should be named lily1-
lilypond-1.tmp instead of just lilypond-1; seems like MkIV changed
buffer behaviour.

I'm working on it.

We urgently need to have some git server or something similar on the
garden for modules. Maybe SVN would also do for a while. The current
approach is very clumsy to use.

I don't think that the users should learn git, that means an automatic solution
on the server would be needed. But these are not trivial to implement. Perhaps
something like auto-versioning svn does the trick?

[NTG-context] How to align a STEPchart?

2010-03-11 Thread Otared Kavian
Hi all,

Sorry for asking again an elementary question…
How is it possible to have a STEPchart be midaligned, or right-aligned, as one
may do this with figures, tables, and FLOWcharts?
An example is here:

\usemodule[steps,mathml]
\starttext
\startbuffer[test-chart]
\startSTEPtable
\cell {$c=2a+3b$} \text {with $a=5$}
\cell {$c=10+3b$} \text {and $b=6$}
\cell {$c=10+18$} \text {we get}
\cell {$c=28$}
\stopSTEPtable
\stopbuffer
How can one center this STEPchart?
\getbuffer[test-chart]
\stoptext

I should add that \startalignment[middle], or \placefigure do not have any
influence on the alignment of the above example.

Best regards: OK

[NTG-context] streams

2010-03-11 Thread Philipp Gesang
Hello all,

the streams module could help typesetting my current work but all the

The snippets I tried are from the comments of

the culprit but I don't really know where to start looking because the
command sequences are not legible in this truncated form. (Is there
some switch that prevents ConTeXt from shortening the names at least in
the log file?)

2010-03-11 Thread Steffen Wolfrum
Hi,

controlling the lineskip in the old-fashoined way \lineskiplimit-\maxdimen
doesn' work in mkiv anymore!

Please have a look at the example below. Attached you may find the resulting
PDFs, set with mkii resp. mkiv.

 Hello,

I don't know git, but if it's as easy to use as svn, then I don't see any
 problem.

Learning curve is the same. The main difference is that SVN is more
well-known and people are more comfortable using it.

You can compare it with LaTeX vs. ConTeXt. LaTeX is simply better
known and more people know how to use it, but ConTeXt is somehow more
powerful. For a beginner it's hardly a difference in the learning
curve.

If it's too complex, then svn should do it, I think (do we need
 the additional functions of git?)

I mean - at the moment we don't have any additional functions at
all, so anything would be better than the current situation. But some
of the additional functions of git are really really worth having:
- ability to have a local repository lots of functionality connected with that
- ease of branching/merging (authors may play with local branches on
their computer with ease)
- easy to implement something like pull requests: someone needs to
confirm that the changes are at least approximately OK (from time to
time some files have accidentally been moved to the wrong place, so
that TeX Live had problems with updates); though I doubt that we
should do that it this moment

Drawbacks:
- ugly graphical user interface
- it would be nice to use something like github, but I don't like the
idea of using github as a main source since context-specific projects
dissolve in the sea of others
- one needs to set it up

If we decide to use SVN, we could set it up much faster though.

I don't think that the users should learn git, that means an automatic
solution on the server would be needed. But these are not trivial to
implement. Perhaps something like auto-versioning svn does the trick?

I partially agree with that, but then again - 99% of module writers
are probably clever enough to be able to apply two or three documented
commands to get the module working on the garden. Also keep in mind
that authors of most modules on the garden (Aditya, Wolfgang, also
Taco) already have their own version controll and just need to go
through the painful process of uploading their modules to the garden
in a proper way, even though the modules are already public on github
or somewhere else.

(I don't know how to use all the functionality that git offers, but
git add, git commit, git pull, git push and maybe git diff do enough
to cover all the basic needs. We don't need to ask users to know how
to branch, rebase etc. if they don't want to.)

In any case - we would still need some page with module information
even if we switch to some version-controlled system.

[NTG-context] sometimes \rightaligned

2010-03-11 Thread Wolfgang Werners-Lucchini
Hallo,

I have an other problem which was asked for years if I remember
right. But I can not find it.

In the following

\starttext
\startnarrower
Und Gott der Herr machte Adam und seinem Weibe Röcke
von Fellen, und kleidete sie. \RA{\tfx (Genesis 3, 21)}
\stopnarrower
\stoptext

I want \RT a macro which does nothing if there is enough space on the
right to set the whole argument and puts the argument in a new line,
rightaligned otherwise.

Can someone remember who has asked this before, or a fresh solution
alternativly.

thank you

2010-03-11 Thread John Haltiwanger
Another option is Gitosis:

http://swik.net/gitosis

from
http://scie.nti.st/2007/11/14/hosting-git-repositories-the-easy-and-secure-way:

I have been asked more and more these days, How do I host a Git
repository? Usually it is assumed that some access control beyond simply
read-only is involved (some users have commit rights). With access control
comes issues of security, and that's a whole other bag of cats. This post is
about presenting an answer to this question, without the fuss.

The rest of this article will be a tutorial showing you how to host and
manage Git repositories with access control, easily and safely. I use an up
and coming tool called *gitosis
http://eagain.net/gitweb/?p=gitosis.git*that my friend
Tv http://eagain.net/ wrote to help make hosting git repos easier and
safer. It manages multiple repositories under one user account, using SSH
keys to identify users. *However, users do *not* need shell accounts on the
server, instead they will talk to one shared account that does not allow
arbitrary commands.* Git itself is used to setup gitosis and manage the Git
repos, which pleases the recursion-seeking orthogonal CS-side of my brain.

 see
 http://www.kernel.org/pub/software/scm/git/docs/user-manual.html#public-repositories

If the web server running supports WebDAV, we could use that:

 http://www.kernel.org/pub/software/scm/git/docs/howto/setup-git-server-over-http.txt

Otherwise you'd need to run git daemon (usually on port 9418):
 http://www.kernel.org/pub/software/scm/git/docs/git-daemon.html

For my non-public projects I just access the repos on my webserver via ssh,
but that wouldn't be enough for ConTeXt modules - or perhaps it would, if
everyone gets his/her own user account and you/Patrick can link that into
 the module store.

my attempt to make this list a little more chaotic ;)

Yes, this works now. But this ...
 \setupinterlinespace[line=7pt]\lineskiplimit-\maxdimen}

... does not work as it worked in mkii.

Just set line=8pt and run mkiv, next set line=7pt and run mkiv.
 See the problem?!

yes, i see it. the interlineskip with line=7pt is bigger than the one
with line=8pt.

i looked for the definition of \lineskiplimit at

http://www.tug.org/utilities/plain/cseq.html#lineskiplimit-rp

[..]
IF the glue specified by \baselineskip brings two adjacent boxes in a
vertical list closer together than \lineskiplimit, then \lineskip glue
is placed between the boxes [78].

Damn - I tried PAS and SQL :-/
I hereby change my request into: please add some kind of error message for

[NTG-context] Antykwa Toruńska and dashes

2010-03-11 Thread Philipp Gesang
Hi again,

when using Antykwa Toruńska I have problems getting dashes rights.
Example:

-0

\usetypescript[antykwa-torunska]
\setupbodyfont[antykwa]

\starttext
asdf -- adsf\par
asdf --- adsf\par
asdf--asdf\par
asdf---asdf\par
\stoptext

-0

In output here (MkIV as of yesterday) the double/triple dashes are not
concatenated to en/em dashes. Everything works fine with latin modern,
schola, bonum etc.

What's wrong?

[NTG-context] lpath question

2010-03-11 Thread Hans van der Meer

In xml processing I have the following element:
abc
  xyzcontents/xyz
  xyzcontents/xyz
/abc

In the code it seems to make no diffence if I write /xyz or xyz
without the / for the xyz-node.

{\xmlindex{#1}{/xyz}{1}}
{\xmlindex{#1}{xyz}{2}}

In the reference manual I find the / used, as for example in
{\xmlfirst{#1}{/caption}}.
My question therefore: what exactly causes this behaviour? is it good
coding practice to always use /xyz in this case?

/ anchors in the #1 node

a
  b
cc/c
  /b
  b
cc/c
  /b
  cc/c
/a

so, if #1 == a then /c is more restictive than c

also, if you know that you only need the direct child node, it's faster
as there is no need to go deeper

Doh! Yes, I meant table of contents. I had index on my mind because the
index follows the bibliography and it has an entry in the TOC.

Indeed. MkII and MkIV behave differently with \completecontent.

\usemodule[bib]
\starttext
\completecontent
\completepublications
\stoptext

Gives references in the TOC with MkIV but not with MkII.

To get references in the TOC with MkII, you can use

\chapter{References}
\placepublications[criterium=all]

That did the trick. Now I know that I have MkII. The next newbie question
is: how do I create an entry in the TOC without it being assigned an
appendix letter? After the entry for the last chapter and before the
bibliography entry, I'd like APPENDICES to display and for bibliography to
be appendix A.

[NTG-context] simplefonts

2010-03-11 Thread Michael Saunders
I couldn't get Context running from within TexnicCenter again, so I'm
running it from a batch file. After pouring over all the mentions of
typescripts here and there, I can't make sense of them. For example,
I used to be able to write font definition files that would
automatically shift between different design sizes depending on what
font size was called for. How to do that here? Not a clue.

Finally I settled on trying simplefonts. The two lines of
documentation in Context Garden are:

\usemodule[simplefonts] % load the module
\setmainfont[Delicious] % set Delicious as main (serif) font

I tried this at home:

\usemodule[simplefonts]
\setmainfont[garamondpremrpro]

and, indeed, it loads Garamond, but normal ligatures (e.g. ffi) are
broken, TeX ligatures (e.g. ---) are broken, small caps are broken,
etc. It doesn't even take advantage of the superior figures for the
footnote marks, which are now tiny, spindly things. The documentation
that comes with the module is one line long:

\simplefont[font][..,..=..,..]

followed by a list of OpenType features. So, I tried it:

\simplefont[garamondpremrpro] [features=liga]

It doesn't seem to do anything. Even standard ligatures don't work.

[NTG-context] Unable to use example from Excursion

2010-03-11 Thread Alain Delmotte

Hi!

I am going through ConTeXt an excursion, but I cann't get the example
of table 11.9 (page 34, source pp 32-33) to work.

I always get an error:

! Argument of \docheckifiteminsetelse has an extra }.

  }
\@@kjtabletitle -Use of \type {\setuptables }
 .
\doif #1#2-\edef \!!stringa {#1

 {\setfalse
\hasstructureco...

\docompletefloat ...c!title ={#4},\c!bookmark =][]
 \globallet
\currentfloatnu...

...
l.420 \stopcombination

?

I have tried to comment different parts of the code, but this didn't
help (even if the error changed).

The code is exactly the code from the book (copy/paste from the .pdf)

Further, I do not see the effect of \setupcaption[style=boldslanted] in
example 11.10 (pp 34-35)

I am using the minimals distribution, MKIV on Windows XP SP3.

Thanks for the help,

Alain
