One would expect to have Header overprinted by Text. This is the

Also interesting is when you add \setuphead[subject][style=] in the
preample, then the behavior is like mkII.

BTW, if you wonder why I'm using this, I want to put some additional

it should be put just below.

This appears to be a bug in the luatex pdf backend.

[NTG-context] Lost document background

2010-05-24 Thread Wolfgang Schuster

Hi Hans,

under certain circumstances document backgrounds (overlays) are lost.

A minimum real live example is this:

\definelayer[test]

\setuppagenumbering[alternative=doublesided]

\setupmakeup[standard][doublesided=empty] % background is lost
%\setupmakeup[standard][doublesided=yes] % background is visible

\startsetups[test]
\setlayer[test][hoffset=4cm,voffset=7cm]{\tfd text}
\stopsetups

\setupbackgrounds[page][background=test,setups=test]

\starttext

\startstandardmakeup
text
\stopstandardmakeup

test

\stoptext

With 'doublesided=yes' the background is visible but with
'doublesided=empty'

no background is shown.

I spend a few hours to find the reason for this and i was able to produce
a shorter example:

\defineoverlay[test][\tfd text]

\setupbackgrounds[page][background=test,state=repeat]

\starttext

text\page\page[blank]\null\page

%\chardef\pageornamentstate\zerocount

text

\stoptext

The problem is that '\page[blank]' sets \pageornamentstate at global
level to '1'.

[NTG-context] final tex live current

Hi,

We've made the final tex live current. As a consequence of some fixes it
also means that a bitmore went in there than planned. Taco made release
notes and will check this version into texlive 2010.

This also means that (in upcoming betas) we can start using 0.60
versions of luatex.

The spacing around \int is different in MkII and MkIV. One can get the
right spacing by playing around with \dointkern

For asana, change -6mu to -16mu.

I also need the space-time integral \nt (4 i's)

\definemathcommand[nt] {\repeatintegral{4}}

Is there a unicode slot for this?

Hans, we need a proper fallback mechanism for math glyphs. LM does not
contain iint, etc, so we need to fake them, Asana and cambria do have
them, so we should use the glyph from the font. Currently, the glyph is
always faked.

Re: [NTG-context] hyphenation patterns

2010-05-24 Thread rogutes
Mojca Miklavec (2010-05-24 02:16):
 Dear Claudio,

Thanks a lot for your prompt reply.

On Mon, May 24, 2010 at 00:39, Claudio Beccari wrote:
  Dear Mojca,
no proper Italian word ends in ch (this digraph in normal Italian words is
pronunced as k, not as č or ć).
Nevertheless there are a number of surnames dating back to the old times
(150 years ago) when North East Italy was under Austro-Hungarian ruling,
when Istrian names, mainly Croatian and Slovenian, where transliterated in
such a way that the tipical patronimic ending  -ič or -ić (I don't know the
exact spelling in Latin letters of the Croatian/Slovenian names) was
transliterated for the Empire bureaucracy with -ich.

Thanks a lot for some more insight. I admit that I didn't know the
details (I should be ashamed) and in my area they were more radical
with surname changes (mine was Michelazzi and I think that most
surnames here were properly Romanized, for example Filipčič -
Filippi, so again no problems with hyphenation :) :) :).

  This spelling remained
when North East Italy and Istria were annexed to the Kingdom of Italy at the
end of WW1. After WW2 most of Istria returned mainly to Croatia and a small
part to Slovenia, but the Slovenians and Croatians that had moved the NE
Italy and had become Italian citizens maintained their surnames with the
  Austro-Hungarian spelling.

When I prepared the hyphen patterns for Italian ad Latin I did think to
this particular spelling, but I concluded that it was not so important; I
  was wrong, and I apologize.

There's no need to apologize. First, there's an infinite number of
foreign names, so that one simply cannot get all of them right. I
guess that Lju-bl-ja-na is not properly hyphenated either (Lu-bia-na
is ok), but in my opinion it's a valid argument that one should change
the language when writing foreign names if they are to be hyphenated
properly. I can also easily imagine Slovenian patterns that would
 hyphenate:
 Fis-cher, Aac-hen, Go-ethe
when not knowing that those letters represent a single letter/sound
 in foreign words.

Second, I have no idea, but I think it was a pure coincidence that the
problem reported by Rogutės Sparnuotos is the same as that for
surnames of a group of people on North-East (I think that the name in
question comes from Russia with translitaration done by English). On
the other hand if it's just a tiny pattern that solves them all ...

Thank you Mojca and Claudio for your replies.

Mojca has guessed correctly: I merely noticed that the surname Manovich is
hyphenated wrongly in the three languages I've tested. And I don't mind
using \hyphenation{} or switching language for foreign names.

I don't know how hyphenation patterns are made, so I was surprised to see
the main rule of at least Latin/Italian/Lithuanian hyphenation broken (a
syllable must contain a vowel). From your explanations it seems that
hyphenation patterns are kind of case-by-case rules, so this problem is
not suprising, since no common words end with '-ch' in these languages.

Wonder if I'll find a maintainer of the Lithuanian patterns...

\vskip-\baselineskip behaves strangely when put after a section
header. Here is a minimal example.

   \setuphead[subject][after=]
   \starttext
   \subject{Header}
   \vskip-\baselineskip
   Text
   \stoptext

One would expect to have Header overprinted by Text. This is the
case in mkII, but not in mkIV where we get Header followed by Text
on the same line. Is this a bug or a feature?
Also interesting is when you add \setuphead[subject][style=] in the
preample, then the behavior is like mkII.

BTW, if you wonder why I'm using this, I want to put some additional
info on the right side of the title when there is room left. Otherwise
it should be put just below.

  weird indeed ...

This appears to be a bug in the luatex pdf backend.

fixed in trunk, SVN 3699.

Re: [NTG-context] texexec/context error messages [MkIV]

And, the initial reason for these questions: has anyone figured out an
appropriate 'errorformat' for the 'vim' editor, for use with MkIV? The one
 at http://www.vim.org/scripts/script.php?script_id=1925 seems to be
 working with MkII only...

Hans, does LuaTeX support -file-line-error flag like pdftex? If so,
how do I pass that (context --passon=-file-line-error) does not seem
 to work.

Rogutes, if you want to match

system : module * not found

 Add

   \%+Asystem\ %#:\ module\ %m\ not\ found,

to the error format (it will not jump to the line containing
\usemodule[...] because that information is not available in the log
 file).

Thanks, Aditya. I hope a 'file-line-error'-like option will turn up
eventually :)

One more question regarding error reporting: why are invalid parameters to
commands _silently_ ignored? 'texexec --verbose' outputs the same, be it
run with \setupheads[align=abc123,heads=lotsoff]
or with \setupheads[align=center]

Since there is no documentation describing the numerous parameters of
most of the commands, I think it would be really useful to support the
trial and error method by showing as much parsing errors as possible...

[NTG-context] Problem with dotted fontname ?

2010-05-24 Thread luigi scarso
I'm using otf fonts from
http://www.sourceforge.net/projects/linuxlibertine
ie
LinLibertine_Re-4.4.1.otf
LinLibertineC_Re-4.0.3.otf
LinLibertine_BI-4.0.5.otf
Biolinum_Re-0.4.1.otf
LinLibertine_It-4.0.6.otf
LinLibertine_Bd-4.1.0.otf
Biolinum_Bd-0.4.1.otf

mtxrun is able to show them, but mkiv fails to load.
Problem disappers if one renames them in sane way
like
LinLibertine_Re-4_4_1.otf

[NTG-context] interaction [MkIV]

2010-05-24 Thread Rogutės Sparnuotos
G'day,

The defaults of interaction seem to be a bit strange (are they meant for
slides?)... Could someone please help me with these points?

A) Clicking on a reference to a footnote should take me to the footnote at
   the bottom of the page.
B) Once at the bottom of the page, clicking on the footnote number should
take me back to where it was referenced.

A) doesn't work, hence the first question: is there a parameter that I can
give to \setupinteraction[], to make links work when the destination of
the reference is on the same page as the reference itself?

B) changes the zoom level, even with 'focus=standard', and takes me to the
   previous page. An example:
 \setupinteraction[state=start,focus=standard]
 \starttext
 \footnote{Note 1}\pagebreak
 \footnote{Note 2}\pagebreak
 \footnote{Note 3}
 \stoptext
Compile, open pdf, go to the bottom of the document, click on the green
   '3'.

By the way, why isn't the 'focus=standard' parameter mentioned in either
Reference/en, or in setup-en.pdf? Found about it here:
http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Interaction

P.S. I am using the 'evince' document viewer; PDFs generated with XeLaTeX
work very well.

hm, i wonder why ... anyhow, on tex live they hav edifferent names

i've been thinking of a version feature for fonts, like

fonts/data/who/what/1.0.0/font.otf
fonts/data/who/what/1.0.1/font.otf

as i wonder what the impact of these versions are

[NTG-context] \definereferenceformat [MkIV]

2010-05-24 Thread Rogutės Sparnuotos
A bug in MkIV?
The left=[ and right=] settings of \definereferenceformat[] bleed through
to \in and \at:

\definereferenceformat[cite][left={[},right={]}]
\starttext
\section[sec:test]{Test}
\cite[].
Section \in[sec:test].
\stoptext

By the way, is \setupreferencing meant for \about only (if so, why the
generic name)?
