Re: [NTG-context] 3. Re: \MPpos, pxy, initialize_box(), oh my! (Hongwen Qiu)

2010-06-05 Thread Hongwen Qiu

? 2010?06?05? 10:56, Adam Fuller ??:
my initial post had a mistake: i meant to refer to the /Metafun/
manual, not the Metapost manual. that probably didn't help.

Actually, I know that you mean the /Metafun/ manual.
i guess what i should have said is, i know that pxy can give me the
bounding /box/ (the rectangle with the maximum horizontal and vertical
extents of its contents, be they set in horizontal or vertical mode),
but can it give me the subset of that, the bounding /path/, if you
will, when the contents are text which flows over several lines. the
bounding /path/ may not be rectangular, although it will be something
like the union of the bounding boxes of the text's individual lines.

So now, I understand what mean.
i think if you look at the correct reference, the difference of the
effects is clear. i think the challenge is that you don't know where
the line breaks will occur until you typeset it. --adam

And the source code from the manual may help you:

\setupMPvariables[mpos:box][linecolor=darkred]
\setupMPvariables[mpos:par][linecolor=darkred]

\startpositionoverlay{backgraphics}
  \setMPpositiongraphic{A-3}{mpos:box}{self=A-3}
  \setMPpositiongraphic{A-4}{mpos:box}{self=A-4}
  \setMPpositiongraphic{b:A-5}{mpos:par}{self=A-5}
  \setMPpositiongraphic{b:A-6}{mpos:par}{self=A-6}
\stoppositionoverlay

\fpos {A-5} Because the text must be laid on top of
the graphic, the graphic must precede the first word in the
typeset stream or it must be positioned on a separate layer.
In the latter case it can be calculated directly after the
paragraph is typeset, but in the former case a second pass
is needed. \tpos {A-5}

Given the above code, I think you can get some information about the
horizontal and vertical pos of texts from \fpos and \tpos. And the
mpos:par is defined in anch-pgr.mkii and anch-pgr.mkiv. But I haven't
dig into the code which implement mpos:par. Hope you can find useful
information there.

And hope the following message I just searched out will help you too:

[NTG-context] macro beginner question...

2010-06-05 Thread Bernhard Rosensteiner
Hello all,

in the process of learning macro programming in context i encountered the
following problem (minimal example is attached):

when i have \setuphead[section][color={red}] the color key influences in a
strange way my „novice macro“ (see the text which should be black but is red).
Further more the \ruledhbox in my macro stops at some point the red color (with
a normal \hbox all the text in the section is red).
what i´m doing wrong here?

No, that would definitely not help. Your problem was not the
definition, but that you never actually called the macro.

You should put the definition back, and add \Mycolor to the
\OpticalTest macro, perhaps like so:

\def\OpticalTest[#1]#2{%
\addff{\OOFeature}%
\definedfont[#2 at \OOSize]%
 \setupinterlinespace
\hbox to \textwidth{\clip[width=.39\textwidth,
  bottomoffset=\strutdepth]{%

[NTG-context] ConTeXt unit testing

2010-06-05 Thread Yury G. Kudryashov
Hi!

Are there any automatic unit test for ConTeXt distribution? At least the bug
with referenceformat can be catched using something like

context test
pdftotext test.pdf test.txt
diff test.txt test.txt-good

And the bug with broken footnote can be catched using just context test.

If there are unit test, where can I find them (I'd like to add more)?
If there are no, any objections against adding them, and testing before
releasing new beta?

Re: [NTG-context] ConTeXt unit testing

2010-06-05 Thread Otared Kavian
Hi Yuri and Mojca,

As far as I am concerned, I have a little file named « basic-test.tex »
containing the lines below: eveytime I update the minimals (well… almost
everytime), before doing so, I proceed as follows:
1) I make a backup copy of my existing and working context-minimals

2) I run first-setup.sh to update to the latest context-minimals

3) I typeset the file « basic-test.tex »: if everything works I keep a zipped
archive of the old installation and I delete the backup copy. If the new
installation doesn't work I delete the updated context-minimals and go back to
my old installation (and I complain to Mojca, Hans, Taco, and the list…).

Here is this little file:
%% file basic-test.tex
\starttext
\chapter{Testing a chapter\footnote{Actually for testing footnotes in a chapter
header\dots}}

This file has been typeset
on \currentdate{}
at \currenttime,
with
\doifmodeelse{mkiv}
{mkiv,
LuaTeX version \the\luatexversion,
LuaTeX revision \luatexrevision,
(LuaTeX date stamp \luatexdatestamp),
using the command: \crlf
\type{context basic-test.tex}\crlf}
{mkii,
using the command: \crlf
\type{texexec basic-test.tex} \crlf}
ConTeXt version \contextversion.

\section{Testing a section\footnote{Actually for testing footnotes in a section
header\dots}}

An elementary identity: $(a + b)^2 = a^2 + 2ab + b^2$. And a well-known
identity due to Leonhard Euler in which the five most important numbers appear:
\placeformula
\startformula
{\rm e}^{{\rm i}\pi} + 1 = 0.
\stopformula
By the way, $\int_{0}^{2\pi} \sin(x)dx = 0$, while
\startformula
\int_{0}^{2\pi} \sin^2(x)dx = \pi.
\stopformula

\startitemize[r]

\item Testing items and footnotes\footnote{This is a silly remark\dots}

\item\footnote{This is a silly remark, inside an item\dots} testing items and
footnotes

\stopitemize

And a final test\footnote{This is another silly remark but outside items\dots}
of a footnote.

\stoptext

%% end file basic-test.tex

Best regards: OK

Do you mean coordinates like a vector (x,y,z)? I still think that the
extra space before y and z would be appreciated. But nevertheless,
different settings for different needs sounds like a good idea.

[NTG-context] Lua in LuaLaTeX is diferent??

Hi,
I did a Lua application for ConTeXt, and now I wanted to adapt it to

On what needs to be careful? Compiling by LuaLaTeX specific messages
appear as if the Lua in LuaLaTeX didnt know some Lua commands (i.e.

On what needs to be careful generaly when programming applications for

Re: [NTG-context] Lua in LuaLaTeX is diferent??

2010-06-05 Thread Jaroslav Hajtmar

Hi,

I am sending examples of functions:

The first function is functional in ConTeXt MKIV even LuaLaTeX.

-- Global variables for setup in library (it be used when glob. vars
Sep, Ld, Rd is not setting in main aplication):

UserCSVSeparator=';'
UserCSVLeftDelimiter=''
UserCSVRightDelimiter=''

function ParseCSVdata(s)
local Sep = (Sep == nil) and UserCSVSeparator or Sep
local Ld = (Ld == nil) and UserCSVLeftDelimiter or Ld
local Rd = (Rd == nil) and UserCSVRightDelimiter or Rd
if Ld ~= '' or Rd ~= '' then
   local s=string.sub(s, string.find(s, Ld)+1, string.find(s,
Rd,-1)-1)

end
local fieldsep=tostring(Rd..Sep..Ld)
local result = {}
  local from  = 1
  local sep_from, sep_to = string.find( s, fieldsep, from  )
  while sep_from do
table.insert( result, string.sub( s, from , sep_from-1 ) )
from  = sep_to + 1
sep_from, sep_to = string.find( s, fieldsep, from  )
  end
  table.insert( result, string.sub( s, from  ) )
  return result
end

The second is more universal, but it only works in ConTeXt MKIV.
LuaLaTeX report error: attempt to call field 'split' (a nil value) ... .

function ParseCSVdata(string2parse, separator, leftdelimiter,
rightdelimiter)

Sep = (Sep == nil) and UserCSVSeparator or Sep
Ld = (Ld == nil) and UserCSVLeftDelimiter or Ld
Rd = (Rd == nil) and UserCSVRightDelimiter or Rd
  local separator = (separator == nil) and Sep or separator
local leftdelimiter = (leftdelimiter == nil) and Ld or leftdelimiter
local rightdelimiter = (rightdelimiter == nil) and Rd or rightdelimiter
local result={}
if leftdelimiter ~= '' and rightdelimiter ~= '' then
string.gsub(string2parse,
leftdelimiter..(.-)..rightdelimiter, function(a)
table.insert(result,a) end )

else
  result=string.split(string2parse,separator)
end
return result
end

I would like to benefit from the second function, but I want the
application was applicable even LuaLaTeX

Thanx Jaroslav

You need the lualibs package, which imports some of the extended lua
librarires from ConTeXt, since string.split() is not a standad lua
function.
