Hi,

 I see that context minimals is at 2010-06-05 version, hovewer git repo
 [1] is last updated on 2010-05-29.

 So, experimental means no more updates :) It's now passed more then 24
 ours from my first email and still the git repository is not updated.

OK, I'l have a look into it and I will report back. I am interested what you
use the git repo for.

 How can I typeset Russian in Mark IV? None of the examples from wiki

 You need a font with cyrillic glyphs, e.g. when you have microsofts core
 fonts
 installed this example works:

 \setupbodyfont[mscore]
 \starttext
 Немного русского текста для пробы.
 \stoptext
Thanks, this works but I don't like this font, and it breaks some math
symbols. It would be nice to be able to use, for example, the same font
LaTeX+babel use by default (btw, is it cm-unicode?).

To follow the changes and learn the code. Other repos are more
convenient to follow, because each commit is a small step, while in

[NTG-context] Problems using new beta

2010-06-07 Thread Ivo Solnický
Hi all!

I am just new to ConTeXt, I have played with it for one week. I have
installed standard ConTeXt minimals installation and no other TeX distro is
installed on my MS Vista computer. I use also TeXworks editor.
On Sunday, after I installed new package, I realized, that my workflow is
broken.
I received next message in my TeXworks editor, the same for command line:

MTXrun | run 1: luatex
--fmt=C:/context/tex/texmf-cache/luatex-cache/context/2fea56f92e5267d7cc9662e4d5f52e1e/formats/cont-en

This is LuaTeX, Version beta-0.60.1-2010060523 (Web2C 2010) (rev 3685)

\write18 enabled.

! I can't find file `./dopis.tex'.

* ./dopis.tex

 Please type another input file name:

I have my documents in C:\Users\Ivo\TeX directory and ConTeXt worked fine
until the new sync.

When I tried to find what is wrong, I realized strange thing. When I move my
document somewhere inside my TEXMF tree (C:\context\tex), it works.

For example I copied dopis.tex into c:\context\tex\texmf-project and
everything was ok.

Maybe it is my mistake, but I am not experienced enough to find it. But it
worked before.

Maybe this is related to another problem I have. When I compile ConTeXt
documents from my user directory, MTXrun said:

MTXrun | warning: source mismatch (luv: 768743af5acbbfb6f306763f3da964ca

MTXrun | fileio: locating list of '/texmf'

and recompiled format every time I run Context. This is very time consuming.

But this is not true when I compile documents inside my TEXMF tree, for
example in c:\context\tex\texmf-project directory.

Any help?

I still have some questions about the ConTeXt itself, but first I would like
to solve these problems. If you need any additional information I am ready
to send it.

Thanks.

Thank you for this script. I'm sure I'll have good use of it!

I just did a quick test with Myriad Pro, and it works nicely.

Some minor suggestions for usability:

1. If there is no 'typescripts' directory, the typescript and test-file should
be created just in the same directory as the oftsmkr file (so it's easier to
use it anywhere outside the texmf-tree).

2. In the test-file, I had to replace '\start' and '\stop' with '\starttext'
and '\stoptext' (otherwise it doesn't work on my sytem).

3. The line '\usetypescriptfile [nameofthetypescriptfile]' should be
included in the test-file. So the test-file will use the typescript file if it
is in the same directory as the test-file.

4. All the '\definefontalternative' definitions which you print in the
terminal output could be included in the test-file. So the test-file would
work out-of-the-box.

Thanks for sharing your script!

Best wishes

Thomas

If I understood your first message correctly, you are storing your tex
documents within your context directory. This is a VERY bad idea because

1. mkiv checks the checksum of your context tree. When it changes, it will
regenerate the format, that's what you see happening

2. in case of an update, your files could get deleted or overwritten.

ConTeXt (and TeX in general) can be a bit overwhelming at first if you have
never used such a system. I don't know how experienced you are with computers
in general, but I would suggest you read some introductory material on TeX
(though I admit that I just looked around a bit, and couldn't find any simple
document which explains the TeX directory structure and how to use it).

[NTG-context] Clipping of text (or something equivalent)

2010-06-07 Thread Erik Margraf
Hi all,
I'd like to achieve in context something like I did in
the attachment (context.pdf). My idea was (and
that's the way how I did this in Inkscape):

   - Create Text
   - Double the text
   - Clip one for the upper half, clip the other for the lower half
   - Connect the two halves.

My (probably naive) approach to clipping text in context was:

-
\starttext
\startuniqueMPgraphic{context}
  draw btex \bf Context etex xyscaled (4.0, 4.0) withcolor .8white ;
  clip currentpicture to unitsquare;
\stopuniqueMPgraphic
\null\dontcomplain
\uniqueMPgraphic{context}
-

(Without the clip - line, the string Context is displayed. With
clipping, nothing is displayed.)

Any hint in the right direction towards clipping or maybe a better
way to achieve this is appreciated.

Thanks

[NTG-context] \definetextbackground - problem with footnotes

2010-06-07 Thread Alan BRASLAU
Hi,

I use \definetextbackground to create an environment that is set-off from the
main text. This (now) works correctly, except in the particular case when the
backgrounded text wraps to a second page and the first page contains a
footnote. In this particular case, the footnote also gets the background,
which is not the desired behavior.

Is this a bug or am I not using \definetextbackground correctly?

Alan

Minimal example (see also attached pdf):

\definetextbackground [example]
[location=paragraph,
background=color,backgroundscreen=middlegray,
leftoffset=0.5cm,rightoffset=0.5cm,
topoffset=.25ex,bottomoffset=.25ex,
before={\blank[small]\switchtobodyfont[script]},
after={\blank[small]},
frame=off]

\starttext
\input tufte\footnote{Do we ever get tired of this text?}\par
\dorecurse{3}
{\input tufte\par}
\startexample
\input knuth
\stopexample
\input tufte
\stoptext

Re: [NTG-context] Removing Introduction section number

2010-06-07 Thread Rogutės Sparnuotos
Vyatcheslav Yatskovsky (2010-06-07 01:23):

 +1 for  \section [number=no] {Introduction}

 This was my first guess to try, and it is so convinient!

 :)

This is similar to what I was (intuitively) trying out first, when
tackling this same problem last week...

Couldn't \section[]{} keep accepting the reference label in the square
brackets, and support more comma separated options (for case by case
option adjustment, as Alan mentioned)?
