it’s up to Hans but i would also prefer “medium” as standard value in mkiv

 (the maximum space is 1em+1sp, so we probably will never get different
 hyphenation, but almost always less overfull \hboxes)

the overfull box in your example was caused by the compound word at the end off
the line, besides \setbreakpoints you can reduce such message with different
settings for \setupalign (e.g. with verytolerant or stretch or hz etc.)

Re: [NTG-context] still struggling with footnotes

2011-01-05 Thread Achim Jander

Am 03.01.2011 16:51, schrieb Achim Jander:

Hi all,
I am still trying to get the footnote numbers aligned in a special
way: flushright, but the width depends on the width of the max
footnote-number on page,

so to get
1
2
and
~9
10

After reading the manuals and the source given in strc-not.lua thats
how far i am at the moment:

\enabletrackers[structures.notes]

\setupnote[footnote][numbercommand=, way=bypage]
\setupnotedefinition[footnote][location=left,distance=1em,hang=4,headalign={flushright},width=1em]

\def\getmaxnote[#1]{\ctxlua{
local n = structures.notes.getn(#1,n)
local current = structures.notes.get(#1,n)
local cr = current.references
local result = cr.realpage

-- calculate the width of cr.number and store in maxwidth
-- loop through the notes until act.realpage cr.realpage
-- and for each note calculate the width, compare with maxwidh and
store the max

-- then set the width to the correct maxwidth

-- context.setupnotedefinition({footnote}, {width=maxwidth})

}
}

\appendtoks
 \getmaxnote[footnote]
\to\everybeforenoteinsert

\showframe

 \starttext
\dorecurse {100} {
test  \footnote{test }
}
\stoptext

Now I can not figure out how to get the real footnote-number of the
note (is there any way?) And does this approach make sense at all?

Any hints welcome, i tear my hair for hours now

Greetings,
Achim

Hi again,

now i found out how to get the footnote-number:

  local num = current.numberdata
  local test = num.numbers
  local num = tostring(test[1])

but i also found out, that my plan of iterating through the notes was
indeed senseless, because at this stage the next footnote is not known.
(i should have tested that first).
So my new plan is, to calculate the correct width in
everybeforenoteinsert, and to compare it with the first one of the page.
My question now: is there any possibility to restart the page when i
find that i need a greater width?

eg to invoke a command \justdoitagainsam??

Sorry that i make so much noise about such a silly footnote-thing, but
all my books have many footnotes, and all the notes have to be
typesetted like that (not my idea)

So without, i could hardly use ConTeXt anyway and that would be sad...

Greetings,
Achim

[NTG-context] Passing and retrieveing a variable

2011-01-05 Thread Procházka Lukáš

Hello,

I'd need to pass a variable to Ctx and to retrieve it inside a compiled
document - via Ctx itself and also by Lua. Something like modes; but modes
allow just to check whether they are on or off. I'd need something like this:

Calling context.exe:

---
call context.exe test.mkiv --mode:MyMode --variable MyVariable=AAA
---

And test.mkiv:

---
\starttext
  Hello

  \doifmode{MyMode}{Being in MyMode}

  \ifvariableequal{MyVariable}{AAA}{MyVariable is \MyVariable} % Something like
this

  \startluacode
if context.variables.MyVariable == AAA then
  context(MyVariable is defined.) -- Something like this
end
  \stopluacode
\stoptext
---

Simply said, I'd need to provide a conditional (or: dependent) compilation of
the input file.

How to handle this?

Best regards,

Lukas

impressive coverage of contemporary alphabets, matching

[NTG-context] Lua error

2011-01-05 Thread Khaled Hosny
I get the following error with current beta (did not happen few betas
ago):
! LuaTeX error
...text/tex/texmf-context/tex/context/base/strc-mar.lua:512: attempt to get
length of upvalue 'topofstack' (a number value)
stack traceback:
...text/tex/texmf-context/tex/context/base/strc-mar.lua:512: in

...text/tex/texmf-context/tex/context/base/strc-mar.lua:584: in
function 'getmarking'
main ctx instance:1: in main chunk.

Just removing the # from #topofstack on that line should do it.

(sorry no minimal example, it is rather a large file and I'm not sure
what is triggering the error).

 Khaled

Re: [NTG-context] Passing and retrieveing a variable

Hello,

I'd need to pass a variable to Ctx and to retrieve it inside a compiled
document - via Ctx itself and also by Lua. Something like modes; but modes
allow just to check whether they are on or off. I'd need something like this:

You can check modes in Lua:

context --arguments=size=small --mode=print test.tex

And can I check a variable (argument) in Lua in a similar way?

---
\starttext

Print mode: \doifmodeelse{print}{yes}{no}

\startluacode
if tex.modes['print'] then
context(Print mode is enabled)
else
context(Print mode is disabled)
end

-- Something like this:

if tex.arguments['size'] == small then
-- Or: 'tex.variables[size] == small'
-- Or: 'document.arguments[size] == small'

context(Small size)
end

--
\stopluacode

\doifenvelse{size}
  {\processaction
 [\env{size}]
 [  small=Small size,
   medium=Medium size,
  big=Big size,
  unknown=Other size: \env{size}]}
  {No value “size”}
\stoptext
---

If the passed argument has a NUMBER value, should it be checked against a
number value or a string - so what of the following should be right:

context --arguments=size=1 test.tex

if tex.arguments['size'] == 1 then ...

Or:

if tex.arguments['size'] == 1 then ...

Best regards,

Lukas
