Re: [NTG-context] handouts blank

2011-05-01 Thread Otared Kavian
Hi Adam,

I tested your code both with mkii and mkiv, and everything seems to work
correctly, both with frame= on or off.
As a matter of fact, I learned from the piece of your code

\setuppapersize
 [A4][A4] % or [A4,landscape][A4,landscape]

\setuplayout
 [header=0pt,footer=1cm,backspace=1cm,topspace=1cm,width=middle,height=middle]

\setupfootertexts
 [presentation---\currentdate\space---\space\pagenumber]

\starttext
 \combinepages[slides][nx=2,ny=3,frame=on]
% or
%  \combinepages[slides.pdf][nx=2,ny=3,frame=on]
\stoptext

that independently of the SimpleSlides module one can combine any PDF file in a
handout… Thanks very much!
I added on the wiki a page for this:
http://wiki.contextgarden.net/handout

Best regards: OK

Preferrably both. However TDS and some other fixed rules are easy to
check. Checking the quality is much harder.

Proper form of a module is a requirement.
A decent level of quality is desired.

[NTG-context] handouts blank

2011-05-01 Thread Reviczky, Adam
Hi,

I'm trying to make some (mkiv) handouts from my simpleslides presentation.
Unfortunately the resulting pdf is blank for the slides, no frames either. Can
someone give me an example that works?

Here's my minimal:
% slides.tex
\usemodule[simpleslides][style=BigNumber,font=Helvetica]

\setupTitle
  [title={Title},
   author={Author},
   date={\currentdate}]

\starttext
\placeTitle

\SlideTitle{Title2}
content

\SlideTitle{Title3}
content
\stoptext

% handout.tex
\setuppapersize
  [A4][A4] % or [A4,landscape][A4,landscape]

\setuplayout
  [header=0pt,footer=1cm,backspace=1cm,topspace=1cm,width=middle,height=middle]

\setupfootertexts
  [presentation---\currentdate\space---\space\pagenumber]

\starttext
  \combinepages[slides][nx=2,ny=3,frame=on]
\stoptext

I also tried it with the standard presentation examples and using .tex and .pdf
suffixes for the combinepages command.

Perhaps due to a old bug in pandoc

This was fixed in pandoc 1.6 that is why I don't see it. Paul, you will

Strange, here it's:
LANG=
LC_CTYPE=C
LC_NUMERIC=C
LC_TIME="POSIX"
LC_COLLATE=C
LC_MONETARY="POSIX"
LC_MESSAGES="POSIX"
LC_PAPER="POSIX"
LC_NAME="POSIX"
LC_ADDRESS="POSIX"
LC_TELEPHONE="POSIX"
LC_MEASUREMENT="POSIX"
LC_IDENTIFICATION="POSIX"
LC_ALL=

And in my environment:
LC_CTYPE=en_GB.utf8

When I add to my environment "LANG=en_GB.utf8", then the context output
is:
LANG=en_GB.utf8
LC_CTYPE=C
LC_NUMERIC=C
LC_TIME="en_GB.utf8"
LC_COLLATE=C
LC_MONETARY="en_GB.utf8"
LC_MESSAGES="en_GB.utf8"
LC_PAPER="en_GB.utf8"
LC_NAME="en_GB.utf8"
LC_ADDRESS="en_GB.utf8"
LC_TELEPHONE="en_GB.utf8"
LC_MEASUREMENT="en_GB.utf8"
LC_IDENTIFICATION="en_GB.utf8"
LC_ALL=

So luatex and/or context changes at least LC_CTYPE to C in my case. When
I set LC_ALL too, I get the same result as yours.

I just had a look at

language which has lowerdoubleninequote on the right of the quotation is
Hebrew, I assume because its RTL.

Quotation marks weren't invented until the printed book (from habits in Greek
manuscripts actually, but that's a different story), so manuscripts aren't of
help here, unfortunately... Printed texts often follow national conventions (so
texts printed in Germany have „quote“), but also “quote” or ‘quote’. I'm fine
with anything, but the lowernine variety looks really weird.

I you mean the gantt module, have a look at the mailinglist:
http://www.ntg.nl/pipermail/ntg-context/2010/054051.html

It was advised to upload it to tlcontrib instead, so the module is located here:
http://tlcontrib.metatex.org/cgi-bin/package.cgi/ruid=4295644089/action=view/id=300

As I could neither upload it to the minimals module site nor could I delete the
empty module page, this is why you have the module with no author etc.

To clarify, by well-formed you mean that it follows TDS; not the quality

[NTG-context] quotation marks for language latin

2011-05-01 Thread Thomas A. Schmitz
Hi all, Hans,

in lang-def.mkiv (line 623) and and lang-ita.mkii (line 101), we have

\installlanguage % the same as italian
  [\s!la]
  [\c!rightquote=\lowerrightsingleninequote,
   \c!rightquotation=\lowerrightdoubleninequote,
...

This can't possibly be right (is there a language which has “quote„ ?). I think
the usual thing would be

\installlanguage
  [\s!la]
  [\c!rightquotation=\upperrightdoubleninequote,
   \c!rightquote=\upperrightsingleninequote,

We'll continue the discussion with Taco today.

(I have set up SVN repository also on the garden, but whatever option
is chosen, it would be great to keep everything at a single place at
the end.)

Indeed, very painful ... ;)

I'm sure, that the module authors would like to run just one simple
command (e.g. "make contrib-upload") to update their modules in the
distribution, instead of filling a form in a web-browser.

Suggestion: to make it easy and fast, why not just add a new
svn directory to foudry.supelec.fr, and every author gets a
sub-directory, where they can upload their modules in TDS format. And
the first-setup.sh would just pull the modules from there.
Thus the authors can keep using bitbucket, github, etc. for their daily
work, and upload a new version by means of a new makefile-target.

Taco can surely better explain why. I think somewhere in the luatex
manual, he explains why luatex sets locale to "C".

To see the differences in the environment, just do "set >/tmp/set-shell"
and run context on:

--8<---cut here---start->8---
\starttext
\ctxlua{os.execute"set >/tmp/set-context"}
\stoptext
--8<---cut here---end--->8---

I don't have pandoc, but I'm sure that you can reproduce the problem
with "LANG=C pandoc ..."

Thus, the solution would be something like:
"filtercommand={LANG=en_GB.utf8 pandoc ...}"

Maybe setting 'BaseState' to 'Unchanged' would be an option here, but
the note in the reference says:

"If BaseState is present in the document's default configuration
dictionary, its value must be ON."

What a mess!

I think it's better to ignore the preflight warning about BaseState...

1a. Somebody needs to check/confirmed that it is well-formed.
1b. At least somebody needs to find it useful and request it (which
you just did; should it also be added to TeX Live?).
2. Until we do something about it, it would be very very desirable to
put it to modules.contextgarden.net (I know that it is painful).

Once 1 and 2 are met, I just add a single line to sources that trigger
inclusion of the module to minimals (and a separate one for inclusion
into TeX Live).

Hi Hans,

using the 'Report PDF syntax issues'-preflight in Acrobat9 gives a
warning about an 'Unexpected value for this key'.
I used 'pdf-x4p.mkiv' from /texmf-context/tex/context/test/ as test file.
Probably just a warning about a redundancy (see 'PDF Reference, version
1.7.pdf', p376), setting 'BaseState /ON' in combination with '/ON [
whatever] /OFF [whatever]'.
Removing 'BaseState /ON' results in a flawless PDF.
