Hey Wolfgang. I patched the file as recommended and still the same error
message.

I always clear ~/.texmf-var after updating ConTeXt. But I also ran
context --make as well this time, although that is run automatically
when ~/.texmf-var is empty, no? Regardless, I did both prior to
recompiling and got the same error.

Yep. That is definitely exotic!

My use-case has nothing to do with mathematics, I'm more interested in
typesetting traditional prose according to various book designs. Also in
publishing an organizational newsletter which has a fixed layout hence
is amenable to using TeX rather than DTP.

Terrific product that can handle both your usage and mine just as adroitly.

I don't know whether you overlooked my previous message about the distance

ConTeXt is updated only once per year for TeX Live, during TeX Live
freeze period & short before a new release. Just enough to allow some
testing.

Bugs that are reported & easy to fix may see bugfixes in TeX Live, but
betas as such won't propagate into TL. Also, if fonts that are being

[NTG-context] beta

2012-06-27 Thread Hans Hagen

Hi,

I uploaded a new beta. In the process of cleanup I kicked out some of
the supp-* modules, most noticeably the visual debugger. That one has
been replaced by another mechanism and a merge of some functionality
already present in modules (and more might be moved into it).

As they are often used for testing, \ruledhbox, \ruledvbox and
\ruledvtop remained and all the others have been replaced by
placeholders (and might go away). The \show* commands are mostly dummies
(and will disappear) but these remain:

\showmakeup
\showallmakeup
\showstruts
\showglyphs

Hopefully this doesn't spoil your playing with low level tex stuff.

The good news is that the current implementation provides more detail,
is more colorful, and comes on (pdf) layers (so that you can hide
categories).

\showallmakeup

\starttext

\ruledhbox{hbox} \blank
\ruledvbox{vbox} \blank
\ruledvtop{vtop} \blank
{\definedfont[Serif*default at 30pt] g ff} \blank
test \strut test \blank
\input ward \par

\stoptext

You can use \enabletrackers[visualizer.*] with * being
fontkern, kern, glue, penalty, hbox, vbox, all, reset, makeup, whatsit,
and glyph.

Re: [NTG-context] \placeregister[index]—preventing page break before

2012-06-27 Thread Alan Bowen
Perhaps more information would be helpful:

The index comes in this component file:

\startcomponent c_B2-IndexLocorum

\setupheader[state=high]

\BibTitle[IndexLocorum]{\WORD{index of passages}}
\placeregister[Passage]
\LevelBHead[KiddPassages]{Passages in Kidd's collection}
\placeregister[Kidd]
\page[makeup]

\stopcomponent

The registers are defined in an environment file as follows;
%Passages
\defineregister[Passage][Passages]
\setupregister[Passage][n=3,%
balance=yes,%
pagestyle={\switchtobodyfont[9.6pt]\em},%
textstyle={\switchtobodyfont[9.6pt]},%
criterium=all,%
interaction={pagenumber},%
before={},%
after={}%
]
\setupregister[Passage][indicator=no,distance=0.5em,before={}]

%Passages from Kidd
\defineregister[Kidd][Kidds]
\setupregister[Kidd][n=3,%
balance=yes,%
pagestyle={\switchtobodyfont[9.6pt]\em},%
textstyle={\switchtobodyfont[9.6pt]},%
criterium=all,%
interaction={pagenumber},%
]
\setupregister[Kidd][indicator=no,distance=0.5em,before={}]

The problem is the page break leaving about 3 vertical inches of white
space immediately after the LevelBHead and putting the entire Kidd index of
some 20 lines on the next page.

How can I prevent the page break and split the Kidd index?

I am using MKII.
