I got errors, but then I updated the application 'TeX Live Utility' in /Applications/TeX/, and then it worked. So run this program, and also regularly for updates. Even though the distribution is only released once a year, it is possible to keep packages up-to-date. ___ If your question is of interest to others as well, please add an entry to the Wiki! maillist : ntg-context@ntg.nl / http://www.ntg.nl/mailman/listinfo/ntg-context webpage : http://www.pragma-ade.nl / http://context.aanhet.net archive : https://bitbucket.org/phg/context-mirror/commits/ wiki : http://contextgarden.net ___

I don't know why mtxrun is trying to write in a /systemd-private directory. If I disable the colord.service through systemd, then context format is generated correctly, and context can compile the file. Once the format has been generated, the colord.service can be enabled again and the context compiles correctly. So, I'll say that the arch version of texlive also works out of the box. It is a bug that it is not working; not a deliberate action, or evidence of sectarian behaviour. > I got your point about writing to MOjca: I'll do that off list to see whether > this can be fixed and how. Actually, rather than bothering Mojca who is already overburdened, you should report it to the TeX Live list (http://tug.org/mailman/listinfo/tex-live) where you’ll be able to reach the people responsible for TeX Live, and many more. Last time I had anything to do with it, Mojca did the context-for-tl stuff, I assume that is still the case, and she is also on a mac normally. Perhaps she can help... That was a distribution screw up. I did the following test using docker: 1. Install full texlive (it is a 3 GB install!) $docker pull sumdoc/texlive-2017 2. Run Docker (here /tmp/context folder contained a few context files) $docker run -it -v /tmp/context:/home -w /home sumdoc/texlive-2017 /bin/bash 3. On the docker prompt, run #context test.tex Context regenerated the formats and compiled the files. So context works out of the box on texlive 2017. How to make sure that texlive distributions on major linux distributions work out of the box is a separate issue. I am not sure what archlinux is doing differently that a systemd service for setting color profiles is being called.
