Re: [NTG-context] Current LMTX unable to compile file metafun-positioning.tex - error on line 240

2020-11-23 Thread Giulio Bertellini
Dear All
Unable to compile metafun manual with current release of LMTX for linux
X86_64 and RPI 4 (both Raspberry PI OS 32 bit and Manjaro Linux ARM 64).
engine: luametatex version: 2.0802, functionality level: 20201118

tex error > tex error on line 240 in file metafun-positioning.tex:
Missing number, treated as zero. This problem never occurred in earlier
compilations with LMTX.

Commenting out file metafun-positioning.tex metafun manual compiles
successfully. Same problem is exhibited in different version of ubuntu and
arch linux X86_64 ,

Thank you all for your feedback.

234 \startsection[title={A more detailed view}]

235

236 As we know, a decent portion of \TEX's attention is focused on
breaking

237 paragraphs into lines and determining the optimal point to split
off the page.

238 Trying to locate the optimal points to break lines is a dynamic
process. The

239 space between words is flexible and we don't know in advance when a
\hpos {A-1}

240 >> {word} or piece of a word |<|maybe it's best to talk of typographic
\hpos {A-2}

241 {globs} instead|>| will end up on the page. It might even cross the
page

242 boundary.

A number should have been here; I inserted '0'. (If you can't figure out
why I

needed to see a number, look up 'weird error' in the index to The TeXbook.)

Please consider that this mac mini is quite old and I am running mac OS
Catalina on an external SSD. This was the first installation on Mac of
Context today. I am quite happy with the results.

I wish to express my appreciation for the outstanding work that Hans and
the entire Context contributors team have carried out with focus and
perseverance through the years. Hello to Otared and Luigi with whom I was
in contact many years ago at the time of MKII .

I also installed the same LMTX Context release on the Linux Subsystem for
Microsoft Windows 10 and on different versions of Arch Linux. with the same
excellent results.

Thanks again for the excellent work,

Giulio

2013-04-11 Thread Giulio Bertellini
HI,
just downloaded the beautiful fonts-MKIV manual onto my Android 7 tablet
(inexpensive Samsung) and it displays quite well both with Adobe Reader and
the Kindle reader. with Adobe reader all hyperlinks work great and there
is no comparison to the Kindle as a pdf reader. Kindle is nice for reading
and navigating through pages with horizontal scrolling, but you loose all
cross-links and hyperlinks.

Congratulations for the great work.

Yes, this is the default. So unless you have manually interfered, the

Sitting in a Paris restaurant, equipped with WI/FI and after a couple of

I really like your work. It would be interesting to see the sources and to
learn the tricks (your used).
The look is great.

Thanks to Hans for the beautiful gift to the World.

One final comment. I think the typesetting is fine, technically speaking,
but, overall, the spacing is too tight. It is not relaxing.
Readers should be more confortable. WHAT IS THE THINKING OF THIS COMMUNITY.

I am not a typesetter, but setting type, good typesetting is difficult to
express. It transcends words. It's about feelings and type.

Personally, I think that Prof.Dr.med. should be typeset differently. How can
we accept Prof, Dr. Med, with not spaces in between, perhaps thin spaces.

Congratulations, however.

[NTG-context] Applelaserwriter 360 - Any suggestion for good replacement?

2008-03-27 Thread Giulio Bertellini
Dear Context List users:

in the old days the AppleLaserwriter 360 was an exceptional printer with
very good Postscript support for the Basic postscript fonts.

I am now at a loss in deciding which Laser printer to purchase in a
reasonable price range with postscript support, a reasonable amount of ram
and network support.

I would welcome hints from List users as to their recommendations and
suggestions, also from the TeX and Context point of view. Color support is
not the most important factor, while graphics is.

[NTG-context] Context Minimal Linux installation on MAC Leopard

2008-01-09 Thread Giulio Bertellini
I thought I could install the Context Minimal Linux installation also ona
Mac with Leopard. I did not succeed.

Has anybody tried it. What is the suggested minimal distribution for Context
to install on a Mac with Leopard?

All suggestions are welcome.

Re: [NTG-context] Context Minimal Linux installation on MAC Leopard

2008-01-09 Thread Giulio Bertellini
Thank you for your reply. Over the weekend, I think I attempted to install
Linux Binaries out of the expectation that Linux binaries would work on any
X86 machine, provided perl and ruby are available.

I am new to the mac environment and the reason I bought it was to be able to
have a nice user interface on top of a long established BSD UNIX
distribution. I was also assuming that on that type of machine, I could do
what is easily done on a Linux machine.

Hmmm that's not a source package, otherwise it would work.
But which ConTeXt Minimal Linux Intallation exactly are you talking
about? There is one at pragma website
  http://www.pragma-ade.com/download-1.htm
where you need to download macosxtex.zip and justtex.zip, and there's
 one at
  http://minimals.contextgarden.net/
with some not-yet-fully-stable installer which uses rsync to fetch and
  update the files.

I forgot to answer your main question: on pragma, macosxtex includes
powerpc binaries which should work on any mac. On the garden the
binaries are separate for powerpc and intel, perhaps slightly more
 recent and slightly less tested.

I've heard many leopard users complaining, but only about prolems with
compilation. Once compiled on Tiger, the binaries seem to work OK.

Re: [NTG-context] flow charts

2006-09-23 Thread Giulio Bertellini
Wolfgang:thank you for the example attached to your reply. Is it also possible to get a copy of the flowchart manual to which you refer?I would appreciate it a lot. I have been asked to prepare some process flowcharts in Power Point, which I would prefer to avoid using.
