 thanks for asking a simple question -)

hehe, for you yes, for me, maybe not simple :)

 \useexternalfigure[chapter-1][cow.pdf]
 \useexternalfigure[chapter-2][hacker.jpg]

 \setuphead
[chapter]
[command=\MyChapterCommand]

 \def\MyChapterCommand#1#2%
{\externalfigure[chapter-\currentheadnumber][height=5cm]}

 \starttext

 \chapter{One}
 \chapter{Two}

 \stoptext

 this solution looks wiki-able to me, so ...

Your code works fine. However when I try to add TOC:

\chapter{One}
\section{One-1}

\chapter{Two}
\section{Two-1}

\setuplist [chapter][before=\blank, after=\blank,
style={\switchtobodyfont[20pt]\bf}]
\setuplist [section][margin=2em, width=3em]
\setuplist [chapter,section][interaction=all]
\setupcombinedlist
   [content]
   [alternative=c, aligntitle=no, width=2em]

\placelist[chapter,section]

In the TOC result, there are ONLY item for section. You see, this
question is not simple at all :)

Hi,
Just tested your context.vim under vim 6.3.x; It's better than
tex/latex standard syntax in vim 6.3 IMHO.

I have only a small remark: The following code is valid in ConTeXt:

\useURL
[book-ns-openssl][http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/059600270X/qid%3D1024342376/103-8123753-9606263][][Network

but the syntax considers % like a comment mark, so I see another color
for the text after %.
It's possible to make the comment pattern smarter ? :)

[NTG-context] Palatino truetype: help!

2005-08-26 Thread VnPenguin
Hi all,
I'm trying to use the font Palatino truetype with ConTeXt under teTeX

http://home.salamander.com/~wmcclain/context-help.html :

1. I have already all 4 files: palabi.ttf, palab.ttf,  palai.ttf,
pala.ttf (under /usr/share/texmf/fonts/truetype/mscore folder)

2. I have already also all necessary tfm, vf (provided by vnTeX
3.0-rc1 of Han The Thanh)

3. I created a file named type-pala.tex with the following content:
- begin type-pala.tex --
\usetypescriptfile[type-buy]
\starttypescript[serif] [mspalatino][t5]
\usetypescript[serif][fallback]
\definefontsynonym  [PalatinoLinotype-Roman]  [lprr8v]
[encoding=t5]
\definefontsynonym  [PalatinoLinotype-Bold]   [lprb8v]
[encoding=t5]
\definefontsynonym  [PalatinoLinotype-Italic] [lprri8v]
[encoding=t5]
\definefontsynonym  [PalatinoLinotype-BoldItalic] [lprbi8v]
[encoding=t5]
\stoptypescript
\starttypescript[serif] [mspalatino] [name]
\definefontsynonym  [Serif]

\definefontsynonym  [SerifBold]   [PalatinoLinotype-Bold]
\definefontsynonym  [SerifItalic] [PalatinoLinotype-Italic]
\definefontsynonym  [SerifBoldItalic] [PalatinoLinotype-BoldItalic]
\stoptypescript

\starttypescript [MSPalatino] [t5]
\definetypeface [MyPalatino] [rm] [serif] [mspalatino] [default]
[encoding=t5]
\stoptypescript
--- end of type-pala.tex

and a test file :

--- begin of test.tex

\loadmapfile[mscorevn.map]
\language[vn]
\mainlanguage[vn]
\enableregime[utf]
\setupencoding[default=t5]
\setupbodyfont[reset]

\usetypescriptfile[type-pala]
\usetypescript[MSPalatino]
\setupbodyfont[MyPalatino,12pt]

\starttext
Vietnamese UTF-8 text here
\stoptext
- end of test.tex
--

In the map file mscorevn.map
($HOME/texmf/fonts/map/pdftex/vnextra/mscorevn.map)
I see :
-- mscorevn.map
--
lprr8v PalatinoLinotype-Roman  T5UniEncoding ReEncodeFont
t5uni.enc pala.ttf
lprb8v PalatinoLinotype-Bold  T5UniEncoding ReEncodeFont  t5uni.enc

lprri8v PalatinoLinotype-Italic  T5UniEncoding ReEncodeFont
t5uni.enc palai.ttf
lprbi8v PalatinoLinotype-BoldItalic  T5UniEncoding ReEncodeFont
t5uni.enc palabi.ttf

But unfortunatly my PDF has always CMR12 font, no Palatino at all :(
I'm completly newbie with typescript font in ConTeXt.

With pdflatex, I could use this Palatino font without any problem.

  Yes, after modifying the file, I ran fmtutil --refresh, that's not enough
  ?

 Truthfully, I am not sure.

 Since teTeX 3.0 and its non-existent engine support, I always run

texexec --make --all

 and ignore fmtutil completely. There is just no way for me to keep
 my executables apart without engine support. And then there is the
 separation between fmtutil-sys and fmtutil for users, so that, even
 when you are root, 'fmtutil' is still not a 'system command'.

 So: perhaps you now have a format with your changed file, and
 perhaps not, I really do not know. If you feel up to it, perhaps
 you can send me the utf-8 document in an e-mail message (zipped
 or tarred, to prevent e-mail clients' messing with it).

 Good luck, Taco

Hi Taco,
You're really a guru !
It's OK now after doing your suggestion and run texexec --make --all
(for both user root, i'm not sure, so I run both :-))

Thank you so much,

Look for RPM package of teTeX 3.0 for SUSE 9.2, normally in update tree.
If not found, you can build teTeX 3.0 from source. It takes me about
10' to have teTeX 3.0 with latest ConTeXt running under Linux Fedora.

Re: [NTG-context] beginners manual

2005-11-26 Thread VnPenguin
Hi Hans et al,

Just tried to compile ma-cb-en with T5. Here are some remarks:

1. \def\TitlePage#1#2#3 in file ma-cb-style.tex does not work with T5.
Because of

\definedfont[SansBold at 40pt]

I lossed so many vietnamese accented characters. I have to change to

\switchtobodyfont[40pt]\bf

in order to make T5 work. I think the file ma-cb-style.tex needs
more attention for multi-lang support.

2. In file ma-cb-en-document.tex :
...
\CONTEXT\ expects a plain \ASCII\ input file. Of course you
can use any texteditor or wordprocessor you want, but you
should not forget that \CONTEXT\ can only read \ASCII\
input. Most texteditors or wordprocessors can export your
file as plain \ASCII.
...
What do you think about a plain text input file in UTF-8 charset ?
It's not ASCII by definition, but the current ConTeXt (pdfetex) can
work with it no problem. All my works with ConTeXt are prepared in
UTF-8 input file.

That's all for now.

Thank you for your work,
Regards,

 know what options to pass to pdftex's configure-script to match the

 /var/lib/texmf)?

The simple way, IMHO, is to build teTeX into /usr/local/teTeX.
After finished all, you need put /usr/local/teTeX/bin at top of your
$PATH and that should ok.

PATH=/usr/local/teTeX/bin:/usr/bin:.

By this way I have always teTeX/pdfetex/ConTeXt up-to-date on my FC4 box.

Hi all,
In fact, VnTeX supports UTF-8, VISCII, TCVN, VPS. So it would be nice
if ConTeXt could do the same :) In reality, the charset UTF-8 becomes
a standard in Vietnam, and other charsets (VISCII, VPS, TCVN) are less
and less used. For me, I used always UTF-8 for all my documents here

 and comment this typescript (see attached file)

 if that works ok, i'll make a new zip

 Now this is a persistent problem

 - some distributions only ship with the u* font files
 - others with the p* font files
 - it even changes now and then
 - and it was suggested that nowadays p* would work everywhere
 - which it doesn't
 - because vietnamese does not have p* files
 - so we need to use u* ones
 - till someone tells me to use p* ones
 - which, of course, then will not be available everywhere
 - and so on

 so, now it looks like we end up with a mixture of p* for non vietnamese
 and u* for vietnamese

 (an option is to use the cont-fnt zip file and forget about
 adobekb/berry naming but i didn't test it with vietnamese [yet])

Just tested your package. I loss a glyph which I dont know the name.
Its shot is at :
http://people.vnoss.org/~vnpenguin/pub/shots/gentium-dd.png

It seems that you use Gentium 1.01. With Gentium 1.02 in my box, I
could use this glyph no problem (the shot was done with Gentium 1.02
in Leafpad editor).

I try to replace your ttf by 1.02 release by modifying map file. But
this does not help. Maybe we need to recreate files with 1.02 ?

Why 1.01 ttf are still there ? And why 1.02 PFB while there are only
TTF in your package ?

2. I don't think that files fonts.cache-1 are necessary for ConTeXt :-)
$ unzip -l sil-gentium.zip | grep fonts.cache

 key (given that interaction is enabled).

 \externalfigure[file.pdf][page=1,scale=700,frame=on,interaction=yes]

 This is experimental code and it will be extended in the future. Also more
 control will provided. Future releases will also deal with layers in
 embedded images (all within reasonable bounds).

 The current code still supports older mplib although so this current might
 work with alpha 0.61 versions.

 We expect a next beta if luatex in a couple of weeks so there will for sure
 be beta releases of context in the meantime.

Ah, I don't know this folder yet :) It works without error now.

Thanks,

I follow this example to test fonts Palatino. It works perfectly. Thanks!

But when I do some math with \startformula ... \stopformula, I got
LMRoman12-Regular and LMMathItalic12-Regular in my PDF.

My stupid question: How to use math symbols of Palatino ?

 use the ones based on the px fonts (search for palatino in  font-otf.mkiv)

Do you mean type-otf.mkiv ? I can't found font-otf.mkiv in my
minimal installation here.

I tried to add:
\starttypescript [math][palatino][all]
\loadfontgoodies[px-math]
\definefontsynonym[mathroman][pxm...@px-math]
\stoptypescript

into the example code. But it does not work.
Could you give me some idea please ?

Thanks

I take simply the example on wiki, no more no less :

 I have the same question. Anyone could give us some typescripts for
 MathTimePro 2 please.

 (1) make a directory texmf-fonts/fonts/data/mathtimes
 (2) copy the fonts there
 (3) run mtxrun --generate
 (4) test if it works:

 \setupbodyfont[mathtimes]

 \starttext
  test $e=mc^2$
 \stoptext

 The free version seems to be lm compatible so that should work I guess given
 that the same mapping is used. For the pro variant (with extra scripts) the
 vfu file probably needs to be extended with vectors the those.

 Hans

Thank you, I'll try it,
