Thanks, I'll give it a try (installation is already running).

Hi,
Do I really have to install ruby? I downloaded it, but can't find
anything like install, setup or something like this. Even the
readme is not very helpful at all. And another question: for
using Ruby - and therefore ConTeXt - do I need cygwin?

Both versions still show no sharp s,
but it's the oldtimer running. The
download of the new version will soon
be finished and tomorrow I'll install
it - hopefully

umlaut-iso-8859-1.tex --> no sharp s
umlaut-utf-8.tex --> sharp s
umlaut-windows-1250.tex --> no sharp s
BTW: The download is running (or should I say
crawling) with a gargantuan data rate of
about 25 k

Hmm, is there a zip-file or something like this, which
I can download via http or ftp for use with windows? I
think of something like context-setup-mswin.zip, only
not minimal. I would very much appreciated a link to

No, not with my oldtimer.

Thanks a lot, elegant and much shorter.
But, alas, I can't test it yet since
Hi,
Regarding the following example I've got two questions.
(1) Why don't I ever see the argument #2 in the output?
(2) What do I have to do to suppress the unwanted space
after the end of the output of this macro (as can be seen
in the result before the following comma)?

ACK.
Accustomed to LaTeX this handling had the feeling
of TeX, but of course it isn't. Nevertheless I'm
afraid I'm going to have a hard time to learn this.
The next problem(s) are already in the pipeline.

That's a good starting point, thanks for the link. My first
attempts are running, although faulty. Perhaps I'l

The result is shown in the attached test5.pdf,
\SS and \ssharp show the 'eszet', \number`

Hi,
Does something like \newcommand exist in ConTeXt?
My questions aims especially at the optional argument
with a predefined value. So, how do I realize
\newcommand{\test}[2][A]{foo}
with ConTeXt. In the fine manual I found an index entry
\definecommand, but in the 'rest' of the manual it wa

I'm sorry, seems to be too early in the morning.
test3: umlaut-utf.tex
test4: umlaut-latin.tex

I'm going to try to and I hope the attachments will work.
In short: the first example (result in test3.pdf) shows
the 'eszet' while the second example (test4.pdf) doesn't.

Hi,
My next problem seems to be the german umlaut 'ß'.
Running the following example delivers only six of the
seven wanted characters, while the 'ß' is left blank.
I'm not sure whether this might be a problem with
my editor WinEdt, but I'm sure you can show me the
right direction.

Seems to be somewhat older since pdftex is not known as executable.

Hi,
Doing my first steps with ConTeXt (after about ten years
experience with LaTeX) I was running into the following
problem.
Running the enclosed example I got still the english
version (as can be seen in the 'Contents'-title of the
TOC).
