[NTG-context] Time to take over a ConTeXt project in Hamburg, Germany?

2007-07-02 Thread Karsten Heymann
Hi,

I'm looking for someone to take over long-term support for a running
(paid) ConTeXt project in Hamburg, Germany. I'm currently supporting a
small scientific institution who does regular publications with
context, but since I'm leaving university now and changing places to
start a real full-time job, I (sadly) will have no more time to do
so.

The job consists of:

* maintaining the layout files and do occasionally changes
* maintaining their local context installation (minimal installation
on Ubuntu 6.06)
* providing simple linux/subversion/scite support (nothing complicated)
* (optional) maintaining the existing Word-HTML to XML converter
written in python

If you

* have some experience in using and configuring context (installing
fonts, defining layouts,
  getting multi-column-grid layout looking nice)
* can communicate in german
* know how to use subversion
* can start right now (or at least quite soon)
* (optional) can provide occasional local support in Hamburg

then please contact me for further information.

Yours

just manually ; the cleaner the ascii text, the less chance of errors (typos

A side note: When using LaTeX, emacs+auctex can do that with the
align-current function. It would in fact be very nice if auctex's

Hello Vyatcheslav,

2007/4/2, Vyatcheslav Yatskovsky [EMAIL PROTECTED]:
Then, we need something like Word2ConText (or a macro written in VBA) to
 convert
incoming papers to ConText code and then easily assemble them. Something, that
 resembles famous Word2Tex application.

I've recently created such a solution for a journal, hand-crafted to a
very specific document template. They now have to pre-format every
article with this template, export it to HTML and
my converter makes Context of it. Be awary, that this required a
significiant amount of time
(and money, as it was contract work). But the basic idea is quite simple:

* preformat the doc in word by applying special paragraph styles to
all paragraphs (which
will be mapped nicely to CSS classes)
* Export the word doc to HTML
* make XML from it with htmltidy
* filter out those huge amounts of unneeded stuff (CSS-Stuff, DIVs and the like)
* go through the list of paragraphs, and for each paragraph type know what to do

I've implemented it in Python (using DOM and SAX, now that I know
more, I would start with ElementTree from the beginning).
Unfortunately, as it was contract work, I cannot give out the code,
but if specific questions arise, I will gladly share my experiences.

Re: [NTG-context] some basic TABLE questions

2006-05-03 Thread Karsten Heymann
Hi Willi,

sorry for the late reply, was a bit ill

Willi Egger wrote:
 \setupbackgrounds[text][state=repeat,background=screen,backgroundscreen=.8]

I'll try that, but the frame coloring is just for debugging. My
intention was to control the exact aligning of the table on the page.

bTABLE breaks over pages if you use [split=repeat] together with a\
 bTABLEhead...\eTABLEhead.

Using the \rotate command prevents breaking, Possibly you better use
 \setuppapersize[a4,landscape][a4,landscape], which of course rotates
the whole layout including headers and footers.

I didn't think of that, I'll try it out.

I am afraid, that once you include the table into a \placefigure
 environment, breaking is prevented.

Is there a way to add a caption without \placetable then?

I was able to break a long table with a merged cell as you have it in
the first column. However there is possibly a bug, because this column
 has no bottomframe.
In order to place the LOW TECH text correctly you might use a \framed
 command within the table
 \bTD[nr=7,align=lohi] \rotate[rotation=90]{\framed[frame=off,
 offset=.5em,align=center,width=3cm]{Low Tech}}\eTD

I'll try that too.

Thanks alot,
Karsten

Thanks, that already helps a lot. And as I just found the writetolist

[NTG-context] help needed with difficult document structure

2006-04-19 Thread Karsten Heymann
Hello,

I'm having a little bit of problem with the document structure of the
project I'm currently typesetting. It's kind of a scientific magazine
that consists mainly of independent articles. The articles use \section
and \subsection and should have their own numbering, as well as for the
caption numbers and such. Oh, and the article's internal sectioning
should not appear in any table of contents.

At a higher level each Article has it's title (and author) and groups of
articles are put together in categories (Studies, Documentations,
Focus articles). These Categories and the Article Titles should appear
in the main TOC:

Studies
On This And On That
John Doe ... 7
Another Study
B. E. Ginner .. 10

Focus Articles
A Focus Article
N. Ewbie .. 15

Documentation
Content of Documentations . 19
Europe 20
Asia .. 23
America ... 37
Africa 42

and so on. Chosing \part level for categories and \chapter/\title for
article titles comes to mind, but \chapter influences \section numbering
(2.1) and \title doesn't reset all those counters, leaving alone the
problem of getting the author into the toc. I guess I'll have to do this
one by hand.

To make things even funnier there is the documentation part, which has
two levels of unnumbered sectioning, of which the first level goes to
the main TOC and the first and second go to a dedicated documentation
TOC directly preceding that part and listing first and second level:

Documentation Content

Europe
Germany ... 21
Netherlands ... 22

Asia
China . 24

and so on.

Now I'm a bit unsure how to implement this cleanly in ConTeXt. I've
already done it for LaTeX (from which we are switching because of
ConTeXts superior layout abilities). I simply used two additional toc
files for that. In Context I even don't get unnumbered sections in any
toc :( (but maybe I'm just a bit over-tired...)

I cannot expect a ready-to-run solution, but any hints or best context
practices would be highly appreciated!

Yours sincerely,
Karsten

[NTG-context] bug in wiki's urw garamond typescript?

Hello,

after nearly a full day of debugging I found that the urw garamond
(installed with the wiki instructions and the wiki typeface) pulls
textlines out of grid if on a line with some depth (a `p' or `y` for
example) follows a line with a capital german umlaut:

\enableregime [il9]
\usetypescriptfile [type-ugm]
\setuppapersize [A5][A5]
\definetypeface [ugaramond] [rm] [serif] [garamond] [default]
[encoding=texnansi]
\setupbodyfont [ugaramond,10pt]
% \setupinterlinespace [line=2.9ex]
\setuplayout[grid=yes]
\showgrid

\starttext
\startcolumns
Text with some depth: g()y

Übel

Text with some depth: g()y

Übel

\input knuth
\stopcolumns
\stoptext

results in http://www.ecology.uni-kiel.de/~kheymann/files/testugm.pdf
(logfile: http://www.ecology.uni-kiel.de/~kheymann/files/testugm.log,
my texfont-generated urw garamond package can be found at
http://www.ecology.uni-kiel.de/~kheymann/files/garamond.tar.gz). If I
increase the interlinespace to 2.9ex the problem is fixed. Did I get
that right (and should I correct that in the wiki?)

TeXbook, chapters 24-26, should be fairly complete. The source file is
freely availabe (http://ctan.org/tex-archive/systems/knuth/tex/), but
you may not process it with tex.

[NTG-context] assembling typescript

2006-03-19 Thread Karsten Heymann

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hello,

after Patrick Gundlach convinced me at DANTE 2006 to switch the small
scientific magazine project I'm currently working on for a client from
LaTeX co ConTeXt, I'm now preparing a sample document for my client to
convince him, and for that I need your help :)

I've spent the last two weeks getting in touch wich context and I must
say I'm really impressed, nice work!

First challenge is that the document fonts are URW GaramondNo8 for the
text and Bitstream Futura (really: Bitstream Geometric 211) for the
headings. I managed quite easyly to install them with texfont and the
instructions from the contextgarden wiki[1] and compile the sample
document with either font family. But now I'm trying to (1) understand
the typescript files and (2) build an own typescript putting those fonts
together. This is what I have so far:

\usetypescriptfile[type-ugm]
\usetypescriptfile[type-bfu]

\starttypescript [ifa][texnansi]
\definetypeface [ifa] [rm] [serif] [garamond] [default]
~[encoding=texnansi]
\definetypeface [ifa] [ss] [sans] [futura] [default]
~[encoding=texnansi]
\definetypeface [ifa] [tt] [mono] [modern] [default]
~[encoding=texnansi]
\stoptypescript

\usetypescript[ifa][texnansi]
%\ifa
\starttext

\ss
\input knuth

\rm
\input knuth
\stoptext

(type-ugm.tex and type-bfu.tex are attached). What happens is: When I
compile the file a is it is set in computer modern. To enable my fonts I
have to comment out \starttypescript, \stoptypescript and \usetypescript
and enable \ifa. How do I activate my fonts via a typescript.

Yours,
Karsten
