I'm trying to typeset a book. It has two columns, and some floating diagrams. My problem is that the floats aren't going where I want them to and I can't work out how to fix it. My input source looks something like: \startcolumnset[foo] \subject{Blah}

Please can someone explain why the column before the floating figure is empty? I thought that the figure would float through the text to the first location with sufficient space. That appears not te be the case: the input behind the figure does not typeset before it although there is ample
