To verify, use the layout[1] module and add \usemodule [layout] \ShowLayout[units=in] in your document. The default in ConTeXt is that leftmargin + leftmargindistance > backspace, so the layout gets "shifted" a bit. It is not really a shift, because the backspace parameter sets the left edge of the text.
