Hello Alain,

sorry fro the late reaction. — I thought that I had done precisely what you
mention in your reply. — however I will double-check this. Thank you for your

I have an old computer under Linux 18.04
In
TeXworks/Edit/Preferences/Typesetting I have an entry for
ConTeXt lmtx:
path:
/usr/bin
  /usr/local/sbin
  /usr/local/bin
/usr/sbin
/sbin
/bin
/usr/games
/home/alain/context-lmtx/bin
  /home/alain/context-lmtx/tex/texmf-linux/bin
/usr/local/texlive/2020/bin/i386-linux
Most of the path is automatically
created when installing TeXworks. You should perhaps take care
that the paths for context-lmtx is "before the one for texlive,
if you have it.
Now for the definition for the
program:
name:   Context (which will appear in the drop-down menu
program:  context
parameters: --synctex    (which is not fonctionnal)
    $fullname

That'all!
I hope it  will help.

Re: [NTG-context] TeXWorks and synctex SOLVED

2021-12-13 Thread Bruce Horrocks via ntg-context
For those searching in future, the minimum needed to make synctex work with
ConTeXt and TeXShop on macOS Monterey is:

1) Reasonably new LMTX. I have version 2021.12.10 11:41. (It might well work
going back a few versions but not too far.)

2) TeXShop version 4.68

3) TeXShop -> Preferences -> Engines -> Alternate path *must* be set to your
LMTX installation.
For me on an Intel Mac that is:
/Users/bruce/Applications/context-osx-64/tex/texmf-osx-64/bin

TeXShop uses this path to launch the program it needs to convert a synctex
location into a file name
and line number. If this path is wrong then the editor just does nothing.

4) These two lines at the top of each source file you want to sync to/from:

% !TEX useAlternatePath
% !TEX useConTeXtSyncParser

5) Either --synctex="1" on the command line in the .engine file or
\setupsynctex [state=start, method=max]
somewhere in your source (which can be in the current file or in an environment
file).

6) Most times you will need to quit and restart TeXShop when you change any of
the above.

You *do not* need:

1) You do not need the "ConTeXt2021.engine" file: you can use your own engine
file as long as it invokes your local LMTX. So, for me, the two key commands in
the .engine file are:

set path=(/Users/bruce/Applications/context-osx-64/tex/texmf-osx-64/bin $path
/Library/TeX/texbin /usr/texbin /usr/local/bin)
mtxrun --script context --autogenerate "$1"

2) You do not need the following magic line:

% !TEX TS-program = ConTeXt2021

If you do include it then it will override the engine you select from the drop
down.

Hopefully this answer will help others with this problem:- at least until the
version of ConTeXt shipped with TexShop is new enough to support the new
synctex and then there won't be any need to configure anything.

[NTG-context] TeXWorks and synctex

2021-12-13 Thread Bruce Horrocks via ntg-context
I'm having trouble getting the new synctex to work on a Mac. I've completely
re-installed MacTeX and TeXWorks and synctex works fine for LaTeX documents.
But for ConTeXt no combination of magic lines etc will work for me. The
symptoms are... nothing - no errors but no synching, either way.

Q1: is there a log file created somewhere or a debugging flag that can be
turned on which will tell me what is happening when I try to jump from PDF to
editor or vice versa?

Q2: Is this the same error as reported at the bottom of
https://wiki.contextgarden.net/SyncTeX ? Or has that been fixed?

PS: \enabletrackers[system.synctex.visualize] works as expected - i.e. the
.synctex file seems to be correct.

Indeed, TeXworks setting parameters for the first time is unclear for those who

Many thanks for your explanation, Jean-Pierre.

I have tried to set it up before, but with the wrong path to binaries.

I thought they were located in the ~/context/bin directory, when they
actually were located in the ~/context/tex/texmf-linux/bin directory.

Everything works now as expected.

Hi Arthur,

I opened an issue on this topic at GitHub, but I didn’t know there were
a mailing list.

I have just subscribed to the list, but it seems I have to wait for
moderation ;-).

I read in the wiki (at GitHub) that adding a script could be an option.
But this would be an option for me. Not for a newbie.

I mean, I wouldn’t mind to add the script in a computer for a friend.
But I would do that myself.

Otherwise, it doesn’t have to be dangerous, but it would be extremely
hard for people without previous experience.

> I agree that TeXworks is probably on the best choices for newcomers.

On the top of the feature that TeXworks is newcomers-friendly, it has
also been designed with ConTeXt in mind.

One of the weirdest things in the TeX world can be summarized in a
single question: why do we say TeX when we only mean LaTeX?

Many thanks for your help,

Re: [NTG-context] TeXworks or TeXItEasy as ConTeXt editors

2017-08-05 Thread Jean-Pierre Delange
Hi Pablo,

I use to work (to compile) on ConTeXt documents only with TeXworks (on Linux
and Windows). Then I guess you're much more able to work with TeXWork than me !
It's very useful and it allows double windows simultaneously : on left your ctx
code, on right the pdf output.

You only have to configure two things : the path where texworks finds context
executable (~/home/context/tex/texmf-linux32/bin or /.../linux64/bin, and the
same for Microsoft Windows). And a to give a little parameter to TeXworks.

I am afraid that you have to read my French explanation here :
https://fr.wikibooks.org/wiki/ConTeXt#Installation_et_configuration_de_TeXWorks

But I translate the most important (point 3 of the link given above):
When TeXworks is open, go to "Typesetting/Composition" within the "Edition
=>Preferences" menu.
The inferior table "Processing Tools", just create a new tool by clicking on
"+" and write "ConTeXt MKIV". In the field "Program", give the path to
"context.exe", the same given above. Inside the mask "Arguments" add
"$fullname" AND THAT'S ALL ! (Now you are under TeXworks : you must have
"ConTeXt MKIV" just beside the green arrow. If your compilation doesn't work
maybe it is because you are trying to compile your *.tex file with another
executable (pdftex, pdflatex, or anything else...).

Very good idea to build some Spanish documentation on ConTeXt !
Hope it may helps !

Dear list,

I’m writing an introduction to ConTeXt in Spanish.

Before any new user can start compiling ConTeXt sources, I realize that
I have to explain how to configure an editor for ConTeXt.

Since I plan to deal with the latest beta from the ConTeXt Suite, I need
to explain how to deploy it.

I use Geany in Linux and Notepad++ in Windows. But they are too complex
for newbies. TeXworks seems the best option to start with (and to

I compile my documents with the following commands:

   source ~/context/tex/setuptex && contextjit document.tex

I had never problems with that. But as soon as I started to test Qt
applications, I cannot use this.

I mean, the commands above don’t work either with TeXworks or TexitEasy.

Does anyone know how to make the previous commands work with TeXworks?

Setting paths is something I want to avoid, since it is potentially
dangerous for newbies.

Not off the top of my head; you’ll probably find more help on the
TeXworks list (http://tug.org/mailman/listinfo/texworks), I’m sure I’ve
seen this question discussed before. I think it’s as simple as putting

I had some (probably from Hans), but they gone after reinstalling the

context/data/texworks

But I have to admit that I don't keep track of texworks development.

Well... it works! Except ofcourse starting the server, there I should
replace cmd.exe with bash or something like that. Haven't tried that
yet. But main thing is: typesetting works.

hm, strange, but just patching the file.split_path function is kin dof
dangerous .. mayb the path separator is not identified well

* However the typesetting engines were not correctly set up. Texworks
(at least on linux) seems to be looking for a file TeXworks.ini. The
one in the minimals distribution is called texworks.ini. Renaming this
solved it...

has to do with the fact that these are user prefs and stored in a system
dependent way (only windows can be configured); this will chang ein
future versions of texworks

I wish I could help solve these points, but since I'm not much of a
programmer I cannot solve the first issue, and the other are just a
matter of renaming/replacing??

I actually found it to work nicely (on windows XP) as long as all the
ConTeXt-related environment-variables are set, *and* given that the path
to the context-executables has been set in TeXworks' properties dialogue.

I am running it on linux with the context-minimals with exactly *no*
variables set, just the additional path entry in the properties.
found the problem
wrong linked texmfstart
Works nice now
