After step 4, I get the log file below - I then proceeded with step 5
an 6. Step 6 gave me an error msg saying the file
exists, so I proceeded, and now it seems I am having a working
ConTeXt installation.

Then you haven't looked very carefully. There are two, one
Unless you have a good reason for keeping it, try removing the web2c
directory from your /Users/matthias/Library/texmf/ and then
rebuilding the format files.
There has been much on the list about what people want in their ~/
texmf. Still, I find it much simpler to use it only for stuff that i
