late, but still issuing the command \column moves you to the next  
column.

I've failed to find how I could put first some text in two columns and then 
other text in one column on the same page.
After \stopcolumnsep my text goes on a new page.

Any hint would be greatly appreciated

And, after having wrote, began to think and look at the manuals with renewed 
attention!
The answer is: use \startcolumns \stopcolumns.

And I say to myself: RTFM, RTFM,...
