Oh, no synonym needed for my part (not deployed in a major project).
Are you happy with the approach? Do you reckon the 5.16667pt and 6.0pt x-
height will be sufficient? (Lucida in particular is shrunk very
significantly, but then Lucida is an exception anyway.)

Okay, sounds good. I would really appreciate having some other people try
it out and comment before freezing it. The sanserifs, in particular, need
more optical than mathematical matching. 
 

indeed; (btw, your numbers suggest calculations, normally i stick to .05 steps); an option is to have some clever rscale=flexscaled{xx} mechanism which permits up/down rounding, but that's for later; 

btw, in the latest example suite (cont-exa.tex) there is a fonttest interface to play with (probably went unnoticed)

I like the wiki a lot. Thanks for getting it going! It's a nice, quick
way to get hints out there. 

As a result, I wrote up a little font-usage hack that wasn't quite big
enough for a MyWay, but that I wanted to share with folks:
