Thanks Marco—

The problem is with the current version of TeXShop and its pdf viewer. You
are right, if one opens the file with another viewer, the link appears and
functions as it should.

Here it renders fine and double clicking opens the page in the
browser (different PDF viewers tested). Example:

Perhaps this would work: "K\letterpercent C3\letterpercent B6nigsberg"
(not tested)
