Thanks for the info!

Thanks a ton guys.
Frank, what do you refer to when saying "steel kernels"?

We just finished an anamorphic show and overall it's not that much
different. And the images look beautiful :)!
- It's good to estimate more time for tracking, even if it's 2d tracking.
Simple things like tracking a piece of footage to a nodal pan might end up
taking lots and lots of time due to

Sorry to nitpick, Frank but this isn’t correct. Actually the opposite is true.
Anamorphic lenses
wow, that was my dyslexia in full swing. I meant to say you can even
steal kernel shapes from a plate to use in custom convolve nodes. :-D

Fair enough, thanks for clarifying.
Intuitively this is what my experience is though (and even what many
DOPs will state as reasons to shoot anamoprhic).
But yeah, good to have a proper breakdown, thanks.

Going to start planning on a 4K anamorphic feature film. And I must say
that I don't have too much experience working with anamorphic plates.
Are there any issues that I should take note of or any other considerations?

I like to keep everything in 2x anamorphic through my entire workflow in nuke
using the reformat node from the camera files (i.e. pixel aspect ratio = 2 in
the reformat node) and even send the exr out that way to VFX. This way you can
work at 4k but almost have the same speed as 2k workflow
Maybe someone would care to expand on this, but I think you have options
regarding pixel aspect ratio with your VFX plates - leaving them non-square,
or precomping them, "baking-in" square pixels. Can't remember the
benefits/disadvantages to either, but maybe this gets a talking-point
Probably want to allow extra time for tracking and also shoot grids for every
lens. If there are lens flares in shots be prepared with tools or plugins to
replicate them or shoot reference.
