RE: naming conventions:
As best I can tell...
Models with 'CP' (no 'S') have a USB port on the UPS unit, and maybe
also a DB-9 (serial) port.
Models with 'CPS' only have a DB-9 (serial) port on the UPS unit (no USB
port), but include an inline serial to USB adapter cable.  These seem to
be older models.

That entry is from a mailing list post from over ten years ago[*]. Do you have

line that generates the "CPS685AVR" entry in the HCL:
