I can't comment on Philadelphia's track record as a muncipality. I do think wireless is a valuable and manageable infrastructure improvement, and it's something a municipality can implement. It seems a good use of people's taxes.
I think of the example of Dennis Kucinich and Cleveland's power issue. As I understand it, Kucinich fought to keep it public. He was lambasted for it, but a recent audit showed that over the years it has saved the city a lot of money. If they turn over this game to oversized corporations, they'll never be able to oversee it or get it back. I don't think it's the same old thing, either. Each time this issue comes up with a municipality, it increases awareness. In this case, people should contact the governor and tell him: Don't sign.
