A fresh flight of land birds (and others) overnight and into the day
with passerines dominated especially by sparrows & kin.
At Riverside Park, near 114 Street just inside the park was a fairly
brightly-plumaged Orange-crowned Warbler, along

The larger flocks of sparrows were the most interesting places to bird which
included Strawberry Fields, Sparrow Ridge (near the latitude of 83rd St.
east of the West
As Hugh McGuinness mentioned already, strong northeast winds over the past
couple of days seem to have pushed a lot of seabirds, seaducks and gulls
into Long Island/Block Island Sounds and along the southshore of Long
Island. This morning hundreds of gulls were evident offshore between
Amagansett
Thanks to Andy Guthrie for posting the Red Phalarope this morning. Around
7:45 a.m., Betsy and I were driving east on the Lake Ontario Parkway and had
a shorebird going in the same direction. We pulled over to look but only
got the tail as it continued east. We pulled over again but too soon

Today I led a small band of intrepid birders for the South Fork
Natural History Society on a trip to Montauk Point. Despite the
blustery weather we were not disappointed as the day dawned sunny, and
remained so for several hours. The fierce east wind had pushed
numerous
Mark Dedea and I found a Nelson's Sharp-tailed Sparrow this morning
at Southlands Horse Farm, just south of Rhinebeck, Duchess Co. We had
no camera so we called Gene McGarry who came all the way out to get
photos of the bird. I've posted one on my Flickr site.
