We took public transportation to Floyd Bennett Field and
Today, The Eastern Long Island Audubon Society (ELIAS) conducted a field trip
to Forsythe NWR, NJ. Highlights included TV, at least 6 N.Harriers, one of
which was a Grey Ghost, 2 Red-tailed Hawks, 3 Bald Eagles, (2 immatures & an
adult in a tree, busily tearing flesh off it's prey) and 2 adult
An early morning hike around Sunken Meadow state park this morning did turn up
a Cackling Goose in a flock of 75 or so Canada Geese. This particular flock
was feeding on the baseball fields on the Eastern edge of the parkway just past
the entrance for Field five. I did check every single

field, Jodi Brodsky and I were lucky enough to refind the previously reported
Pink-footed Goose this afternoon (11/7) at Sunken Meadow State Park.
We were leaving the park headed south on the Sunken Meadow
This morning, I visited Mount Loretto Staten Island and birded with Howard
Fischer. The highlights were a couple of Eastern Bluebirds, an Adult Bald
Eagle, 2 Cackling Geese and a surprise late Blackpoll Warbler that was
thought to be male. Over at Great Kills, it was quiet save for 3 American
Ed Coyle asked me to post this to the list. The site in question is admittedly
a tiny part of New York State, but I feel sure that it has been enjoyed by
birders from all parts, and that many people will take interest in this
opportunity to improve the habitat there.

2 drake Harlequin Ducks have arrived in Jones Inlet, on the Point Lookout
side. About 10 Common Eiders were in the surf off Jones Beach West End 2. 2
Royal Terns continue in the vicinity of the Coast Guard station. My surprise
sighting of the day was a juvenile, now first winter plumage, Common
Several logically minded people have pointed out that my garbled
statement "none of the Western Kingbirds were not seen" must mean that
they were in fact seen. Alas, what I meant to convey is that several
people looked in for them in Bridgehampton and Montauk today, but
there were NO positive

footed Goose is in the creek at Sunken Meadow SP.

Just to let folks know that some additional birders were out at the
Point this afternoon but none have not been able to confirm the loon
report. Several of us will check the area again tomorrow morning and
will post to NYSBIRDS_L if there is any news, positive or negative.
