Birders who arrived at Montauk Pt. at dawn this morning were treated to the
sight of flocks of Razorbills, ranging from small groups of two to five birds
to flocks of fifty birds, flying north of the Point and landing in the water.
The flight was particularly intense from 7:00AM to 8:00AM, but
After an approximately 45 minute search, Della Wells, Zenon Bachir, and I
were able to locate the Common/Mew Gull around 4 PM today (1/16/2010). It
was found about 100 yards SE of the pedestrian overpass bridge (over the
Belt Parkway near Bay 16th St.) The tide was moderately low at the time. The
Black Vulture (Braddock Bay) and Snowy Owl (Somerset)This morning I found 2
black-billed swans on Upper Lake in Yaphank, Suffolk County. This is the same
location that hosted a pair of Trumpeters last February, and although I only
had distant views, I'm pretty sure that these were Trumpeters-
I did some chasing today and got to see two nice birds. :> ) The Black
Vulture was at the Braddock Bay west spit, Monroe County. The bird came in
and landed in the trees right next to the end of the road but we never saw
it go to one of the two deer carcasses nearby. It looked fairly healthy,
