A walk Sunday morning on the north shore of Long Island at Caumsett State Park
was highlighted by six species of woodpecker, the best being the continued
presence of a Red-headed Woodpecker, seen again in the woods west of Fresh Pond
(north of the mansion). We first observed this bird in early
Central Park, Manhattan, N.Y. City
Saturday, 20 March - Low numbers of E. Phoebes, Yellow-bellied
Sapsuckers, N. [Yellow-shafted] Flicker, Brown Creepers, Golden-
crowned Kinglets, Fox Sparrows, Chipping Sparrow (1) - this last along
with some of the other birds seen, with Mike Freeman.
This past Saturday morning, 4 intrepid Elias members installed 10 Bluebird
nests at the property known as Pheasant Meadows, on Evergreen Avenue in East
Moriches, for the Town of Brookhaven. This marks the 6th bluebird trail our
