degrees in a.m., mostly sunny 47 degrees midday.
David Buckley and I hiked 5.5 miles round trip at Massawepie Mire this
morning and then hiked 2 miles round trip on the Mountaineer Trail near
Massawepie Lake. Normally
A breeding-plumaged Hudsonian Godwit was found at the Wallkill River NWR,
Orange Co. on Saturday evening by members of the Mearns Bird Club, including
Dennis Murphy.
It was found again on Sunday morning by Tom Burke, Gail Benson, and Andy
Guthrie.
The bird fed along a muddy berm trending north

A quiet day with only breeders visible and singing. Opposite the Coast Guard
Station entrance, there was a Merlin perched in a dead tree. Then, as I left
West End #2 via the east exit, I surprised 3 Eastern Meadowlarks on the side of
the road. They flew off into the

Just had my first oriole of the season at my hummer feeder. It was a female
Baltimore Oriole. Awesome. Gotta love it!

The review of recent birding guides by Shai Mitra (pages 74-79) was the best
book(s) review that I have ever read. It was comprehensive, factual, and
honest. It included the pluses AND minuses of each book and compared each to
the others. Super job. Thank you Shai.
