About Jamaica Bay Refuge's East Pond (& applicable to various other
shorebird hot-spots world-wide!) is that the times of high & low tide
are important to how many shorebirds may be found there at any given
hour. On this Thursday, 15 July, the high tide was (very

A 1/2-hour seawatch at Fort Tilden, Queens County (looking at the
Atlantic from the Rockaway peninsula of western Long Island) seemed to
start auspiciously with 2 sub-adult N. Gannets in view in the first

The whale and pelagic bird sightings have been good thus far, particularly
when the whales are feeding near the surface. Here are the results to date:

This morning the seabird show continued at Shinnecock. From 6:30-7:30 a.m. at
least 120 shearwaters were off the Inlet, many at fairly close range off the
East Jetty. I estimated about 70 of these were Cory's Shearwaters, and 50
Greater Shearwaters. There were also at least 80 Wilson's

Hamilton - St. Lawrence Counties)
I guided a California couple during the heat wave last Thursday and Friday.
We began at dawn on Thursday at
Bobby Kurtz, and I are looking at a Hudsonian Godwit at the North East end of
the East Pond at Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge. The bird was found by Tom Fiore.
Good and responsible birding!

Yesterday (July 14) at about 5:30ish there was a Turkey Vulture
flying just over the PC Richard's and Wheatley shopping plaza.
