It appears that the Common Ravens may have abandoned their nest in Kew
Gardens, Queens. Several observers over the past few days (including
myself) report no activity at the nest. Today Corey Finger and I had the
two adult ravens flying over The Water Hole in Forest Park, so they are
still in
I will add some slightly earlier dates for Yellow-bellied Flycatcher. In
the Spring 2010 Kingbird Region 10 compilation (KB 60:3, September 2010), I
cited the arrival date as 14 May based on a reliable report. There are
several reports in the eBird data base for 2010 starting 15 May.

I spent a few hours birding Alley Pond Park this afternoon and had quite a few
yellow-rumped warblers, two yellow warblers, a black and white warbler, two

Looking at my banding records going back to 1997 at sites on staten island and
one at Fort Tilden, we have never banded a Yellow-bellied flycatcher before the
third week of May. The earliest date is for a bird banded on May 23rd at Fort
Tilden (2001), most of our records (including

Apologies, I mistakenly referred to the Yellow-bellied Flycatcher as being
reported from Central Park, when it was actually reported from Riverside
Park.

Tom's report of a Yellow-bellied Flycatcher from Central Park on Sunday is
quite remarkable and surprisingly hidden in the middle of his post, as this
would be quiet a record, and not just "somewhat early". It is not "one of
the earliest of the Empidonax along with Least, in this area", but
Patricia Lindsay just received an interrupted cell call from Joan Quinlan, from
which Pat surmised that Joan had seen a Swallow-tailed Kite at Robert Moses SP,
at the western end of Fire Island.
We can't get through to Joan, but I thought it best to get the word out and to
apologize later if
Adding to the other reports of Yellow-throated Warbler -- one was seen
Sunday morning at the Grace Estate in East Hampton, Suffolk County. It was
rather confiding, often giving long views as it picked insets off tree
bark.
