I thought I would cross post this here given the rarity of Long-tailed
Jaeger in July in Upstate New York.
This evening, Jessie, Jim, Liz, and Sam Barry and I went around
Braddock Bay by boat. While we were cruising around and noticed a
distant bird that was being harassed by gulls. My first

Hot, sunny, humid, and Little League baseball combined to make for
poor birding there. No Grosbeak; hardly surprising. It's to be
noted that both of Hugh's sightings were later in the day.

Seen today at 11am, a first summer male and a female blue grosbeak. The birds
were located along the main entrance road, from Grumman Blvd., at an easterly
side road from which Buildings 705 (on the east) and 81 (on the west) are
clearly visible. Both birds were seen flying between and
The birds initially reported by Rob Stone all continue today at the Wallkill
National Wildlife Refuge. The juvennile White Ibis, Sandhill Crane, Vesper
Sparrow and Sedge Wren were all present and seen this morning. One new shot on

The first breeding bird atlas showed quite a few areas in Steuben County.
On the second, I only found one colony which was on Wade Hill Road, near
Jasper. I couldn't see any of the birds, but thought that I could hear
about nine singing males. Some time after the second Breeding
a couple of people have mentioned they couldn't find my blog the way I posted
it. If you type that into your search, it should come up. Here is the complete
