landfill. The species list included Song Sparrow, White-throated sparrow,

sparrow, Field Sparrow, White-Crowned Sparrow, Chipping Sparrow, Lincoln's
Sparrow, House Sparrow, Swamp Sparrow, and a female DICKCISSEL. I

I spent this morning birding various points along the south fork of Long
Island. Migration was evident at almost every stop, and it was obvious that
a relatively large movement of birds had taken place last night. I began at
Montauk Point, where I located an immature *Orange-crowned Warbler

Without diving into it too far, I disagree with Paul's suggestion that
this is "certainly a Grasshopper Sparrow." Granted, the subject bird
doesn't look like your average field guide adult Le Conte's Sparrow;
however, birds of this species that are only a few months old are
pretty
Betsy and I covered our usual portion of Section 3 on the annual BOS October
Count on Sunday. This area is bounded by the Niagara River, Lake Ontario,
Rt 78, and Rt 104 in Niagara County. We have been doing this section for
about 25 years. This was a truly remarkable day for BLACKPOLL WARBLERS.
