This morning on my way to work I spotted a immature Northern Shrike on Route 42
just before the pipeline clearing in Forestburg. This bird is very brown with
no white in the wings while perched, and a very vague mask. This location is
approximately a mile or so before the Orange County border.
There was a greater white fronted goose feeding on the lawns on the far side
of ST.JOHNS POND COLD SPRING HARBOR. Gary straus

I hiked the Roosevelt Truck Trail today because I lost my favorite water
bottle on the trail on Monday! (I came out too late on Monday to re-hike
it.) With the new reality of our warmer climate, I am often asked what

To me me this bird looks like a Rufous, based on the rather thick, broad outer
tail feathers, extent of rufous in the tail--not thin like in Allen's, and face
pattern, which doesn't seem as pale as a Broad-tailed's
Thanks to Jacob for getting the word out quickly. The bird seemed to be
settling in for the evening by the small garden directly adjacent to the 81st
St. museum entrance at about 4:00pm.

Andy Oliver, from Great Britain, and I found 39 species today. The
highlights were: Long-billed Dowitchers (2), Razorbills (12, close in at the
Coast
Guard Station and Fisherman's Parking Lot), Horned Larks (15, Nature
Center), Tree
Just got a call from David Burg, saying that his son Noah found a Rufous-type
hummingbird in the flowers on the 81st st. entrance to the Museum, by the Rose
center.

On an afternoon stroll yesterday along the High Line on the West Side of
Manhattan (from 23-28 st in this case), I saw more birds than I expected.
There's an art installation of bird shelters and feeders at 23rd st that
several species were taking advantage of, including Mourning Doves,
