Spent most of the day out and about (between 8 and 25 miles) South of
Montauk / East Hampton. Had several hundred Wilson's Storm-Petrels (not at
all unusual for the location and date BTW) plus 8 Great Shearwaters, a
Cory's Shearwater and a Manx Shearwater. Not much else of note bird-wise

Today on the Viking Fleet/CRESLI whale watch in an between waters south of
Block Island to waters just south of Montauk we encountered 30-40 Wilson's
Storm Petrels; 3 Greater Shearwaters; 20 bottlenose dolphins (coastal migratory
stock); and two loggerhead turtles

As of 2:00 p.m. today the Horned Grebe in alternate plumage continues in the
bay at the end of Peconic Trail in Flanders, NY. Also had great views of a
female Belted Kingfisher and a Green Heron..

Adding to Angus' report, there were hundreds of Wilson's storm-petrels just
a few miles offshore south of Montauk Point. I don't get out to this area
often by boat so I don't know how unusual it might be to see such large
numbers, but it's a first for me.

Consistent with Angus' observations, 71 Wilson's Storm-Petrels were present in
eastern Long Island Sound today, visible from the New London, CT-Orient Pt, LI
ferry. These birds were mainly in several tight flocks along surface drift
lines of weed, from near mid-crossing (north of Great Gull Isla
