A Say's Phoebe made a very brief appearance at the Fire Island hawkwatch around
9:00, first detected by Tony Tierno, and immediately enjoyed by all on hand:
Trudy Battaly, Billy Hanley, Norm Klein, Drew Panko, me--and VIP Andy Baldelli,
for whom it was a state bird! (Andy's been out of state
Less than 100 shorebirds on the East Pond at Jamaica Bay Wildlife
Refuge but the diversity was good with 15 species of shorebirds.
Highlights were:
WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER (2), STILT SANDPIPER (2), BAIRD'S SANDPIPER (1)
and the continuing MARBLED GODWIT.

park, another round of Yellow-shafted Flickers went through, with at
least 300 (twice the number counted a day earlier at the same early
a.m. hour just at and before sunrise) moving across the n.
Our NYC Audubon Wednesday morning birding group recorded 38 species. The
highlights were 10 warbler species (Parula, Magnolia, Cape May (2 in good
plumage), BT Blue, BT Green, Blackpoll, B, Redstart, Yellowthroat, Canada),
Philadelphia Vireo, 4 Woodpecker species including Yel-bellied
While enjoying Fall warblers this morning at Peach Hill in the town of
Poughkeepsie on a Waterman Bird Club outing, we all experienced an
amazing flight of Broad-winged Hawks. They came in waves, at times
kettling above us low enough that binoculars were not needed to count
the bands on their
I got a call from Andy Ballideli reporting a Say's Phoebe seen earlier
near the Robert Moses Hawk Watch Platform.
I believe a search is underway to see if it dropped into the median
anywhere near the area.
