I apologize if I wasn't clear about my last post: I realize tomorrow is the
Northern Nassau CBC so I wanted to clarify where I saw the Canvasback today
in Centerport. (I don't want to cause any confusion in advance of the
CBC) Derek Rogers and Brent Bomkamp had reported 44

Today Jack Rothman and I did about 3 hours of scanning the Sound from Orchard
Beach, Twin and Two Tree Islands in the northeastern corner of Pelham Bay Park.
Highlights included nice numbers of Greater Scaup and Brant (~1500 and ~800,
respectively), a female Black Scoter continues off

Huntington, Centerport Pond, and Jones Beach. Highlights were:

It may seem obvious - or not - but to avoid any possible confusion ...
the town of Stuyvesant, NY that is in Columbia County is not where a
Varied Thrush is being seen. (& yes, someone did inquire, privately...)
It's in the community in Manhattan's east side, little old New York
I spent the day birding various locations in advance of the Northern Nassau
CBC tomorrow. Highlights are below:
Centerport Mill Pond
*1 Eurasian Wigeon* - Adult male in same location as described by Derek
Rogers earlier this week
44 Canvasback
1 Redhead (female)
St. John's Pond, Cold Spring

Sorry this is so late, but not having text or other instant technology, I had
to get to the library, but happy to report the Varied Thrush was spotted by
Ryan's mother, Karen, and quite a few others including Ryan, Gina, me, Mike,
Joanne Wassmer, Kathy the
Around 9 AM these gulls were not present, however when we returned all 3 were
back, although the Iceland was on the eastern jetty - no alcids seen. 4 Snowy
Owls seen in various places along Dune Road

also fyi, from the CBC-ers in that sector last Sunday, the below
additional species, including Ovenbird, were around & noted there then
as well.

Warm day, glad I took the bins to work. Varied thrush seen well 330-345 -- took
about an hour. Found with +/- 10 robins and some juncos, mourning doves and
white throats. A number of people got to see it. other notable birds for my
first birding excursion to Stuyvesant were ovenbird (seems
Steve Schellenger, just called to report that while he did not find
yesterday's Glaucous Gull, he did observe 4 Harlequin Ducks and a
Red-necked Grebe near the jetties.

For anyone interested, the Common Linnet was seen well yesterday at Kissena
Corridor. I spent some time studying its behavior and movements. It seemed
quite sensitive to foot traffic in the area but never moved too far, which
allowed me track it for a bit before I eventually lost it. I tried
